I know this is an old thread, but I was verifying/ compiling the arduino program and keep getting the following error message:

Arduino: 1.6.0 (Windows 8), Board: "Arduino Mega or Mega 2560, ATmega2560 (Mega 2560)"

chiumanfu_aquaponic_controller.ino:41:55: fatal error: LiquidCrystalFast.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
Error compiling.

Any Ideas? Any and all input will be helpful.

Thank you in advance,

Chris

I wish I could help but I just don't know Arduinos that well. Perhaps you need to load a library or get an updated copy for the LCD you are using?

The error message is telling you that a file named 'LiquidCrystalFast.h' is missing from your Arduino compiler's library. I think if you look at the very beginning of the code you should see a line something like this: #include LiquidCrystalFast.h; . The code is expecting to reference information in that file as it executes. You can use google to try and find the file and then add it to your library.

You can find the library here:

By the way, anyone trying is to find the original files, they can be found here:

Will a probe compatible with an Arduino UNO work with the Mega 2560?

Good day usmick78

Working code for an 'Uno' can be ported to the 'Mega 2560', ie; pin layout is different between the two boards.

Good to see interest in this thread after so many years have past. I am about to start (again) with this project as well. Will probably use the latest generation of Atlas Scientific probes ( although the original project code does not support them).

take care, peace

After reading many topics on the web, I am more confused. :-)

I am going to try to built the following, but not really sure what I need.

I want to check the water temperature of both fish tanks and the ambient temperature, have it sent by Wifi to a webserver and be able to get graphs.
Also I want to have it powered by solar and lipo battery.

My understanding so far is that I need:
- ESP32 board with battery holder; something like this (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WEMOS-ESP32 ... 2532646793)
- DS18B20 (waterproof and non-waterproof)
- possible battery charger / protector module, although there seems to be boards with this included
- 18650 battery
- small solar panel

Is there someone who can help me sorting out the material required?

Good day

If you are an experienced 'C' developer, then setting up the toolchain to access/flash/program the ESP22 should not be a problem for you.

The the pair of Tensilica cores in the ESP32 are Xtensa-based and not ARM or PIC based such as the AVR cores by ATMEL which are found in most of the 'Arduinos'. I personally would probably use an older ESP8266, which was the predecessor to the ESP32. The ESP8266 has literally thousands examples of code posted on the internet, the majority of which link/embed it to/with an Arduino.

The Arduino based GUI has a less steep learning curve to it as compared to something like the ESP32 device, which requires installing MSYS2/MingW along with a stand alone code editor and the ESP-IDF (API for the ESP22) before beginning to code/compile. At any rate either the standalone ESP22 or the Arduino variety of AVR/PIC all require knowledge of 'C', 'C++'.

If you are an experienced developer you already know what I'm talking about, so just excuse my ramblings.

take care,peace

Definitely get some extra DS18B20's, they seem to fail after about 6 months to a year. (Or maybe it was because I got cheap ones that were pre-waterproofed and cabled on ebay lol)

They are definitely easy to interface with from Arduino since there is a library that does all the heavy lifting, however it does use up a ton of your program space.
