The perch have lots of fat in their guts that they store for overwintering. This will last them for months with minimal food.

I am prepared to take back what I said about sp's lol.......

I honestly think that Lyndsay is responsible for the death of many of our perch for those that purchased them from him. I simply blame his transportation methods and I believe the cause was ammonia poisoning.

I got bored ( is 1:15am) and decided to take the remaing 3 sp's from my tank outside and bring them inside.

For several reasons the ibc I took them out of was green( you couldnt see the bottom)...turbid....smelly....warm, unfiltered and unfed ( apart from the duckweed) but highly aerated..........as I drained the ibc I was surprised to see the lil dudes swimmin around and looking very healthy.

They're now in one of my indoor tanks lookin happy.

so in summary........DO and ammonia levels and water volume in transportation even for a short time DO have a long term affect on the stock

yes a big derr for most but somethin for the newbs to be weary of

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but:
In my indoor fish tank, I have bristlenose, really nice big ones, 3" long, big bristles, have bred a couple of times :-)
I'm getting some SP soon.
Would it be foolish of me to put 4 SP in my 650L tank?
I also have some nice Pictus cats...
I can sell these back to the LFS, cos I want SP indoors, but I'd prefer to keep them if ppl think the risk is low.

So any ideas ppl?

KP - I had jades and silvers in with my bristenose and clown loaches till they were about 10cm in length. While they didn't eat them - they certainly scared the shit out of them. They hid for the entire time I had them in there. I wouldn't recommend it.

Don't even know what they are - but needless to say, native fish which grow to several kilos do not really mix with small ornamentals ;-)
