Ebay link

LED's are not LED's the one I would use would have the same power consumption / output using 64 LED's instead of 900...........

and come in at $176AUD for the LED's

I guess i'm just saying dont look at the number of LED's look at the power :)

I have to agree with Steve. There are some damnably fancy LEDs these days. If anybody is getting a torch, I'd have to recommend a single large LED over an array of small ones.
Same goes for this kind of lighting I guess.
Except if you can get the big LEDs not made by luxeon, they're no longer the best light/power out there.

Yep - there is only one type of plant that could justify that type of money. A 3 foot by 3 foot growing area is not much.

Basil?

having said that, if they are as much chop as they are advertised to be then the 12KW/hr per day saving would pay them off..........

what about tropical tomatoes? I've heard they're quite fibrous and can be used to make clothing...

I was thinking about picking up just one of those 225 light red/blue specturm LEDs to test one out on a small area before going for the whole array. Those e-bay sellers that I've bid for have dummy accounts to push the price to their minimum. But I've bowed-out of a few of them at like $39-42 for one light...
each time I got a "second chance" notice from the buyer offering to sell me one for that amount. I've not taken any of them up on that yet, as I find it a rather despicable practice.
I wish my Brew & Grow would start carrying just a couple different models, for us tinkerers.

Aerogarden
Speaking of catering to your market...
Check that out! The "Pro 200" series AeroGarden has a 24" extension, 3 higher-output lights, and a more advanced light timer including the infamous "24-hour light cycle". I think it's funny.

It is in the sense for roughly $3.00 a planted seed pot you can grow your own mini garden? Hey if it gets folks to eat more veggies it can't be all bad.
