There's a slight oil scum on the top of my poly tank water. Would a lite dose of Vit C help dissipate this?

Well I have not had a lot of time lately but I now have the first grow bed connected so I think it can now be called a system.

I spent lots of time trying to get an auto syphon going but gave up and made it continous flow for now. No matter what i did I could either get it to start ok and not stop via a versa. I will beat that problem in the future.

Given that I have waisted lots of time I slaped it together last night so there are a few things I still have to change to get it more solid. The rain we have had killed my chance to paint the stand. I will do that when the rain has gone and it dries.

The water tests at the time of putting on the grow bed are below.

PH 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

Buggered if I can work out where the Ammonia is going that the fish are producing. Maybe it is being sucked up from the algea that bloomed again when the water cooled down.

The fish seem healthy. I did have a few that died about 8 a couple of weeks ago and I had a few days of a couple of floaters for a couple of days all very little ones. There is one little guy that likes to hang around the top a bit but he is full of energy and you go to close and he zooms off a lightning speed.

Thanks,

I just had the pleasure of sowing the first seeds in the new grow bed.

2 types of water melon, rock melon and iceberg lettuce.

I cant wait to see them start growing. :D

Hi everyone,

Have been away from the computer. Have made a few changes with the system. I will update with some pics shortly.

The fish are going strong and I have a leaf caterpillars problem.

yeah have been squishing for a couple of weeks. I was late and there are millions of eggs around the place so a new lot are on here every day. I am going to try the biological approach.

G'day BR, missed ya mate.

Right time of year in our parts for the caterpillar, fortunately I have been able to keep on top of it and at the same time provide a nice desert for my SP - looking forward to the pics
