Manya, was i you that mentioned a non return valve.

My little submersible pump isn't cutting it any more, i have had a swimming pool pump sitting on the front door step for about 12 months that i'm thinging of hooking up. Way over powered, but i can divert 3/4 of the flow back to the tank for now.

Problem is that i can't take off from the tank below water level as its buried. Is there a one way / non return valve that is "high flow" that i can put in the suction line (theres the fridgie terms ) That way i could prime the pump from the filter basket and it will stay primed when it shuts off

Its called a foot valve.
Goes on the end of the suction hose in the tank.

What size pipe are you planning on using or your suction line ?

Just called the local plumbing shop, some brass(no good) others plastic but don't know the type of plastic and about $15.

The non return valve will keep your pump primed.

Steve a foot valve is a non-return valve only it is at the intake.
Their used in dams a lot.
