Funny that :).
What dad does is he catches one of the fish, (if he's grading them etc.) and puts them into what he calls, "The Knock Out Tank" . After they're knocked out he grabs 'em and weighs them etc. But the bigger ones he had seemed to comes back almost as soon as he took it out of the water. He dropped one once and flopped around his truck. It was sooo funny to his how frustrated he can get.

yep, I used 6 drops in 10lts. Fine for fish of 200-300grams. My guys and gals came around a bit too quick as they were b/n 600g and 1.4kg. It is amazing how quick they recovered in the recovery tank, belting the air in. A couple 'recovered' on the scales, hence the keystone cops trying to quickly return them safely to water. I felt like a very bad fish daddy. Still do. Thankfully they are happy in their new home and all eating well.

Regarding committing Hari Kari... I found when I cleaned all my tanks, that most of my goldfish survived. To my suprise I also found 1 fingerling - that I never added! Babies Yay! Only 1 though. I was so excited I wanted to take a photo for you guys, and of course unco me managed to knock over the bucket and my littleone became an earthGoldfish, and disappeared beneath the tanks :-( So depressed, and over a silly little goldfish!

Clove oil can be had from a pharmacy or maybe in a store that sells aromatherapy or potpourri stuff. The clove oil will sedate the fish a little, but I don't think it clears from the water. You'd have to do a water change to get rid of it.

nick, you need to net them, not use clove oil in ur system to catch them. It's pretty heavy stuff and you don't really want it in ur whole system.
Typically, you net out into an aerated tub, from here into a half full 20lt bucket with 6 drops clove oil well stirred in. Add a few fish and wait til they go sideways like they are knocked out. Depending on size, this may take a few minutes.Carefully measure and weigh then and then place into a recovery tub with system water and lotsa air, b4 going back into ur tank. You need wet hands or wet latex gloves and all surfaces the fish touches should be wet too. (All with system water.)

I would def not be doing this as a harvest procedure, why put chemicals into a fish you have been growing out, just to make catching it easier?
