Have you done any SCUBA before Steve? I am doing my Open Water Course soon. Got $300 voucher for my 21st, but the course is almost $700 though...

Plus I need to do a dive medical, I have no Idea how much that costs.

But I think it will be worth it... It includes pool training 2 shore dives and 4 boat dives...

Re the medical depending on he doctor it should be about $49.50 or if he is cool you may get it bulk billed

yep, gotta organise the medical. its gotta be though an ASxxxx acredited quck though. there is a huge list of them in melb.

Tree bear, the fed gov. stopped allowing dive meds to be bulk billed

Hey guys, is there a difference in bag limits / talking of LIVE fish versus standard fishing regs?

Not that i'm going to pillage or anything, but wouldn't mind a marine specimin or two for a marine tank setup

Not sure in your part of the world steve but I think if your go to the trouble of getting a licence to take live fish your are still only able to take bag limits same as for rec fishing.

to to my NSW Knowledge its just a flat' look but dont touch', if you get caught taking they (rangers) fine you and impound your gear. Fish can be kinda docile under water and it would (if you did that kinda stuff) be very very easy to examine specimins very closely if you had your fish tank net and some plastic bags but am not 100% on this I dive deep and on rust...dont play with my food sorry

he's dead set keen on wanting a cuttle fish.................impossible to find anywhere in oz that sells eggs. sort of ironic really.........there a re NO cuttle fish in the americas yet you can by eggs fairly easily. native to our region, yet no one sells eggs...................

would be really shitty if you couldn't take a single live specimen home yet are able to fish out your bag limit from a boat with hooks.........

I know the bag limit for lion fish is between 20-30... but you CANNOT sell them... So it is pretty pointless.

its very hard explaning to a dive store why you cant return their gear after the dive of your life. mes think they are humor less.

I have heard of occasions where divers have enjoyed pockets full of leather jackets after some shore dives. Bc's have big deep pockets! fits all kinda stuff.

Dont go playing in kelp till you have at least done your advanced or rescue course. can cause you a few orientation and entanglement problems (reads statistic) but after 50 or so dives is definatly an adventure particularly what hovers in and around it. Just keep your buddy close

LOL. thanks for the heads up, keep it comming, the kelp probably would have been one of my first stops, but now i will practice................:visualises himself thrashing in kelp getting more and more tangled and ending up looking like some alien sci-fi breeding chamber victim: LOL

I haven't done that yet thanks be to whatever higher being you believe in. But I've had the warning bile enough times to know I've been close. The worst thing is not being able to wash your mouth out... unless you like seawater!
