I wanna get blind not go blind.Mat just go buy a bottle of metho .How do you water it down?Ive heard that boot polish makes it drinkable!

just drink fish water and pretend it is getting you drunk!!

M aybe I should talk to ELLS wife (re the song, its not all so nice in the nuthouse,the doctors and the nurses dont treat you swell).I have my ute packed,when wife and stepdaughter arrive back from Vanuatu IM OUTTA HERE ,JUST CANT TAKE MY AP WITH ME Ill be leaving with 30 dollars in my pocket and half a tank of fuel!!!. Sorry about all the negative thoughts but thats all i have ATM..Still wondering about the metho cos its cheap!..

I hear that metho its ok with lemonade. Any way fresh starts are an adventure Id get a laptop and rent a trailer and take all that is important to you and makes you happy with you...yep and leave the baggage...any way what ever happened to the 5lt goon??? no nasty after taste just the really nasty hangover...hey is there a pic fo the new hair cut???:)

whilst the ethyl part of methylated spirits is a positive thing, the methylated part is enough of a bad thing to outweigh any benefits. Metho will send you blind temporarily, however eyesight will be permanently damaged and get worse every time you drink it.
Personally I believe there are better things to add to the almost pure ethanol than leave the methanol in it, yet poison seems to be a little dangerous.
anyhow, imho anything added to coke tastes ok... :-)

mmmm my experience has no basis in theory! Just managed a couple of name brand bottle shops and had some professional drinking types who took their knowledge and experience to the hardware on the off weeks... so to speak

While the name remains, the methyl is no longer added to methylated spirits. Due to being sued for poisoning people I believe.
They use a substance called "Bittrex", which cannot be distilled off from metho like methanol could be.
Really makes it unpalatable.

Yes, the whole reason methanol was put in was to stop people drinking it... It was also known for its idiot finding properties. People either tried to drink it as is, and got poisoned, or tried and failed to distill the methanol out. Which in its self is difficult, because both chemicals are so near to pure. Normal distillation practices go out the window.

It is now mostly denatured ethanol, with (as Tony Said) Bitrex for flavour, Other compounds to give a bad odour and vomit inducing agents are sometimes added.

Heres the good part.... One treatment for methanol poisoning its ethanol or alcohol and lots of it.

Which is why many people who make biodiesel (the process uses methanol) always finish off with personal ethanol consumption as a precautionary measure, just in case of methanol poisoning. (Hic).

Hmmm I had heard this, but because processing ethanol using a standard still also produces methanol. I had assumed that they just left the methyl in. Adding bittrex must suck, what do they do with the methyl alcohol now? pour it in the river? Plus it costs them more, and they have to make sure THEY distill all the methanol off.
It does say 'POISON' on the bottle, what on earth could anybody sue for?????

You usually Distill the methyl out first... you do it by running the still at a lower temperature until the booze quits dripping... discard and raise the temps for your ethyl....... Should come out nice and pure if you are savvy with your temp control.

Unfortuanately that 'if' in regards to savvyness is not dependable enough according to our government as stills are still illegal But yes I agree. it's easier if making a cleaner like metho, just to distill the ethanol off, and allow the methyl with it, which is the point I was trying to make.
