Depends on the time frames, I still have a long way to go regarding the shed for the tank and other hardware issues.

unfortunately not one of my virtues, worst part is i have to go to Perth 2moro or Friday and have a TALK to a 2nd hand car salesman. This is going to bite into my construction time as I was going to erect the shed over the weekend.

He should have supplies ready mid January for anyone interested

Gnash,
I would like to get some in Mid January. If you want some around then, I could get them too. Perhaps it would be best to coordinate the purchase with your next trip to Perth?

Tony

hi Tony,

good to see your getting ready to put in some silvers.

i'll chip in for 200 when they become available. should give me enough time to get some more filtration going. will also give me a chance to check out their setup.

perhaps you could get them cheaper for a lot of 500?

please let me know when they become available.

all the best.

I will be in for 100 as soon as they're ready as well; I didn't ask if there was any better price for bulk purchases as I thought 90cents was OK.

hey Troutman,

thanks for the offer. what size are you talking for $1.10?

i will need them large enough to grow out in 6 months, perhaps less. i also want them large enough to not have to worry about changing pellet size to often.

i was talking to my supplier about the silvers from Gidgegannup and he's not sure they are a great idea. the reason for this is the fingerlings are going to be really small. the small pellets are hard to get in WA atm. if you do go with the small fingerlings you better first make sure you can get the feed.

so can anyone get the small pellets for silver fingerlings? also will the fingerlings from Gidgegannup be weened onto pellets already? if no you might find you will loose a few in the process.

just something to think about.

The trout will be about 10 months old and usually around 100gm in weight. You should be able to get them to 600 grams by Sept and if its a mild summer like this year has been they can make 800gm - 1kg by christmas. At that size Im usually feeding them 3mm pellets and if you want to harvest in 6 months you could get away with only 2 or max 3 different sized pellets.

Your right about those Silvers, they will probably only be about 2 - 3 months old as I expect he bred them in November. Sometimes it pays to get the fish when they are a little older as though you usually have to pay a bit more for them the survival rate difference more than compensates for it.

Here's a few Trout that I harvested this arvo for some friends. They ranged from 700gm to a bit over 1kg.

i certainly learned that with the barra. not a single fatality and they are getting huge now. the size i got them they were passed their cannibalistic stage which was a huge plus. no need to grade every couple weeks.

another point about the silvers. apparently small ones wont eat during the colder months. only the larger ones (10cm+) will touch the feed in winter. so if their not feeding in winter the plants aren't receiving nutrients.

something else to think about.
