Im currently planning on making a short documentary and wanted to make a small aquaponic setup as part of the show, i need them to be relatively small to be viable for my purposes. how many fish (im planning on using goldfish) would it take to grow one plant?

and another question, what kind of ' plant ' do you intend to use?... different plants feed off of the nutrients differently (heavy and light feeding plants)

Number of fish is too varied, use weight of fish, (approximate).

Let's take this over to the herb garden thread, and see what room you've got, and what you hope to do with it.

12 litres is small for 1 goldfish, let alone 6. Sure we can come up with something but I won't show you how to do Aquaponics in a goldfish bowl, it's inhumane.

oops didnt mean 12 litres sorry, i'm now looking for a 100 litre tank lol. iv been reading around and asking people and im feeling more confident.
a goldfish would be around 500 grams that right? so by simple mathematics id be looking at 3kg of fish.. does that sound right?

C'mon, you missed that Steve!

I have 500 gram(ish) goldfish and yes they're big.

I use the pound of butter and sardines method. Imagine your fish all packed together like sardines, how close to a pound (500 grams) of butter is that.
