Fair go AM - the green colour has nothing to do with the water, it's the colour of the tank

Doing well BR 8)

When I get up to your stage, I will be in contact as to suppliers of fish food etc, in the mean time be the pioneer and stay ahead of me mate

cheers Les

my bad, thought that with a title like '2006-09-03 algea bloom.jpg' he was refering to the greenish pea soup a lot of us get in the early stages on our systems...

Oh I know what it's like have water like that BR... The good thing is that it only ever really happens once, now you have your system starting to work, once it clears up it will never happen again, and if you build another system stocking the new system with bacteria and/or water from your original will mean you never see it again...

I haven't seen an pea soup algae bloom in any of the last 4 systems I've done..

Be careful that you have enough support under your gravel beds, they're damn heavy..

That pea soup is scary! Likewise, cycling new systems with old bacteria, no pea soup.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

I have a nice big measuring cup that I take full of water into the house to do my water tests and you can hardly notice the green in that so I am always comforted by that. I go a sniff the water about 3 times a day the neighbours must think I am mad with a rainwater tank cut off and green water.

BR - pics don't seem to be working (at least not on my system). I can't see what you have done but I'd be very careful about using treated pine if I had beds below the pine which could end ip with water coming off the pine. The stuff they treat it with is really, really bad.
Would painting the pine help!

BR - are you concerned by the possible leaching of the treated pine into the water. Some people are not, and I am not trying to push my views upon you, I am just interested.

I'm pretty laid back on most things but have taken leaching possibilities into account and made sure that water won't leak into any tanks if any of the timber gets wet, I think sealing the frame would be a good idea.

Woohooo I can see the fish again. They have grown. The algea has almost completely disapeared over night.

That was 9 days for the algae stage.
:D
