What about a mesh frame, turned into a giant sifter.... The vibrational motion should be able to dislodge and remove most of the really fine stuff.

Tim, the device you describe I think is a trommel.
It's a cylindrical device with holes in it (the holes grade your material)
inside is a screw like on the inside of a cement truck.

You rotate this, as it rotates, it feeds clean gravel out the top, while fines fall through the holes or mesh.

push gravel in from the bottom, feed out through the top...

0 water. if some1 had an old cement mixer, it could probably be converted.

here's some1 who sells small trommels: http://prospecting.atspace.com/trommel.html

Hope this helps.

Sad part about the boat ramp would be the trailer fills with water then continues in its reverse motion (glug...glug...glug  )
Did that with my boat once, forgot about the bungs...at least it washed the fish scales out of the bilge.

If you've got a boat then your set - each time you go out in it just take a sack of rocks in a heshian (sp?) bag and drag it along behind you. Might even act as burley!

An update. I've finally finished cleaning all the gravel in the 4 GBs. Now I can go back to experimenting with gamma bombs.

Would be a squished one here!
Lots of surface area in your gravel visible in the pics!
What is the conversion ratio for chooks to daschunds (or poodles)? 1.0 chooks =0.75 daschunds = 0.5 toy poodles I would think! Difficult to get a sense of scale without it!!!!!

Dunno its name, but I've seen them plenty, they tend to like clean white shirts and citrus trees. I wouldn't think he was anything to worry about, but seriously, photo comp - it's a great shot!

DD, that is a good name. I think I will call it "Freakin' Cool Insect!". :D

The AP Gods are not happy!! Just had a hailstorm! What does this mean? Gotta get my butt into gear & finish this system ...

Haven't looked at my car yet ... more worried about hail damage to my AP system! :D

The photo of Anne (the chook) was taken the previous day. (Freakin' Cool Bug flew safely away after the photo-shoot.)

Gotta tell ya, I've never seen one of my chooks so motionless before! When I plonked Anne on the GB, I ran inside to grab my camera & expected to find her roaming about upon my return. But she must have been all like ... "Oh brave new world!" Totally awestruck & wondering what the hell she was looking at! She hardly moved which is why I managed to get a half decent shot of her. (Normally the chookies heads are bopping about all over the place & I can't get a motionless shot.)

Anyway, I don't think too many chooks have had an AP experience before.

Car's ok. Not that you'd notice if it wasn't ... I don't exactly drive a luxury vehicle. :D They were freakin' big hailstones - I'm surprised that none of the cars in the local area were damaged.

I'll find out tomorrow when I collect the eggs. :) ... Nah, I'm sure the chookies were fine, there's plenty of protection for them.
