Hi TCLynx,

Go the ducks, the eggs aren't much different and if you get the right breed they will out lay chickens!

I used to breed several variates of chickens and none of them could compete with my Khaki Campbell Ducks. Indian Runner Ducks are also excellent layers.

Khaki Campbell Ducks competed in layer trials against chickens in the 70's and beat them! Chickens can lay about a maximum of about 250 eggs a year. Top laying strains of Khaki Campbell Ducks can lay 300+ eggs a year! Thats a lot of eggs!

'Course not all birds will lay that number but my 3 ladies (mother and daughters) gave me around 90 eggs a month. :D They now live on my friends property eating grass and swimming in their dam. Although their production has decreased since they started roaming the farm, I suspect it is because they are better at hiding the eggs than my friends son is at finding them!
