The "bean river Gravel" is smooth enough to have not made any holes in my liner, and that was with me just dumping the buckets of cleaned gravel in. But it did need a good wash!!

That summary of the growbed media, was good (saved me searching for the info). Do Silvers and jades like hard water? If so i might get some shell grit, just so i dont have to worry about the pH as much.

I was allowed to handle a moonrock that came through customs in Sydney back in about 1968/9 - just happened to be there at the right time and to know the right guy. Wasn't all that overwhelmed, it just looked like a chunk of ironstone about the size of my fist. It was dark reddish, reasonably porous, and totally unguarded.Try that today !! Cost would probably be almost as prohibitive as hydro shop grow media.

Cool, Big Mick. Was that from one of the moon walks?

I have some "meteor dust" from a magic schoolbus book from when i was younger. I doubt its autheticity though.

I'm glad someone mentioned moon rocks.

I don't know if i'd mentioned them before.

My LFS has them for sale but under a big sign "only for marine or african cichlid tanks"

This is becasue if you filled your entire tank with them your PH would be 8+ and you'd have ultra high KH.

I put 3 in my main aquarium and have NEVER adjusted ph up agian :)

Oh, and i'm fairly sure they're not from the moon! :) LOL

I had a big one in my aquarium when I was at my last residence. It ended up blue after I gave the tank some chemical treatment. I ended up leaving in in a garden - wish I hadn't now.

Yeh, methylene blue and malacite green STAIN. VB, probably best thing for it now that you are growing feed fish. Some one mentioned malacite at minnamurra and the DPI lady nearly had a coronary, and promptly reminded everyone (twice) that it was strictly BANNED.

IMHO anything that states on the bottle not to use near pregnant women speaks for itself

Don't think there would be much trace of any of the chemicals left after 7 or 8 years in the rain and sun. But wouldn't be worth the risk anyway.

Yes Dan, that rock was supposedly one of six that came back from one of the moonwalks, I think it was going to Tidbinbilla, which played a big part in the success of those missions. Hope I've got that right, it's been a while. Moon dust is good, comes from the fur of sea monkeys. Remember them ??

it's not a bad price, i got my four bags for $35 each so if they are the only ones selling them I would think that is a good price
