Lookin good, keep it comin sunshine.

I built a grow bed stand yesterday and filled two of my refurbished metal tanks with water to leak test.
Good news, stands are strong and level, GB's hold water

but..

Checked the GB this morning and found it rusted overnight

The tanks were repaired with fiberglass and then coated with bituminous paint.
I think I should have let the fiberglass cure longer before applying the paint.
Anyway back to the drawing board. I might have to line the GB's with pond liner OR take them to the dump!
Wish Joel's grow bed's were available in Adelaide !

Jezz, I'm amazed that any rust would pop up that quick..... did you killrust/treat them all over??

Good thing in one way I suppose..... Going down the liner path might be the quick,cheap, easy way.

Yeah we spent a lot of time and effort trying unsuccessfully to seal one of the bigger GBs with the bitumen paint, after many mant hours and $ in paint we ended up getting a liner, seemed much easier. The other GB we perservered with painting still leaks, altho no where near as much as it did.

actulay im having trouble sealing a tank with the bitumin paint as well, seems to not work on the joint between the base and the wall too well so i thought i would try silcone but i rushed the apication and it still leaks :GRRRR:

I put sikaflex on the joins before the bitumen paint, on the big tank it has worked well. The big growbed is actually the lid of the tank and has a corrogated floor/roof. That's why we had so much trouble getting it to seal.

The corro growbed has only one tiny leak and a bucket catches that and the water goes to the raspberries

Pete, did you use a scrim (material) embedded in the black stuff?

Its amazing how all our minds think a like... Thats exactly how I am doing my bulkhead seals. Let me guess, piece of acrylic using a hole saw right..???

Yep, hole saws and acrylic.
I needed one extra rubber washer between the PVC and acrylic to get a perfect seal.
(not shown in photo)

Is that ... a rubber duck!?
