backyarder's don't have a HUGE requirement for herbs

speak for yourself ;) i had about half a bath tub of basil last year and loved every bit of it. parsley is also never enough :)

perhaps it is a matter of perspective. 2 bathtubs would be a lovely herb garden for me. but I don't consider that to be HUGE. If your entire system was herbs (which is the idea I was commenting on) could you eat it all?

I don't use all the herbs I grow KP-- am overrun with parsley, licorice basil and rosemary at the moment. Those are all well established plantings. I have newer plants now coming up of basil, sage, oregano, thyme, and have one germander established but never have harvested and used any of it yet. I have been thinking of expanding my tiny little herb garden next system or was that the system I have planned for after the next system?

I can't say much about AP yet but I know I like lettuce as a quick easy crop. Oh and if you like you lettuce mild (are used to iceberg) You may also find you like some other types. I don't like the strong tasting salad greens myself but I've found that salad bowl is great and there are some other varietys growing from a packet of mesclun I got that I like. There is a pretty one that is light green but gets a red fringe around the edge and some red stuff that looks alot like the salad bowl and some red romain and bib lettuce are all pretty safe for the iceberg eater.

It is also fund to dress up that mild salad with some garnish of the herbs or cut small and sprinkle over the whole salad. Basil, mint, parsley, dill, etc.

Oh but there are so many wonderful plants to grow.

With the corn, how big are your grow beds? How much corn was planted? Did you get good pollination?
