Tried that Jaymie - but the sediment is too fine.

I doubt it. It doesn't settle in any rural dams I've seen.

An old towel or cloth nappy...

Well, I'd let it run for a couple weeks and see if starts to clear anyway. There are flocculating agents used in the aquarium trade, but I'd steer away from those. Otherwise, I guess water changes are the only way. Just how cloudy is the water anyway?

Hi EB,

Thought I'd try some other techniques first. :)

Even if I did wash it, I couldn't remove 100% of the sediments ... so what do the rest of you do to remove residue immediately after washing your gravel? Just keep doing water changes?

Scottie, Please keep us posted, I'd love to know what negative effects not washing the gravel has for you (my lazy nature hopes fervently it's just a matter of time)

yeah, if your pump can handle the suspended solids, then as you pump it over the handy gravel filter you have nearby, most of it will be caught in the gravel or settle at the bottom of the growbed

Why doesn't it get recirculated with the F'ing & D'ing action?

I believe you, it's just not clear to me how it works. :)

you have to hold your tongue at the right angle, every single time the pump runs, but it works ;)

Also, depending on the type of pump, will save wear and tear. I am finding that sand in the water is hard on bushings in my submersible pumps.
