Thanks

I reckon lettuce because
1.I tcomes in all colours
2.It comes in all textures
3.I started picking at 4 weeks it grows fast
4.You can pick a little at a time
5. It looks good on the plate with the fish
6. It grows all year here

Can anyone add to this 6 good reasons why lettuce is the best?

sweet stuff is the best. berries and fruits, can't go past em.

Experiment, see what you can grow. Maybe you could compile a list of plants we do grow and do a poll for popularity of different plants?

I am going to be growing a lot of plants various too. I will post a list once I find out how well they all do.

I can say Tomato, Brussels Spouts, Eggplant, Broccoli, Beans, Parsley, Cilantro, Carrots, Peppers all are doing well for me so far. Ohh and cucumbers.

I will have a grand total of about 75+ different plants "vege's only" when I am done with that side. I want to go bushes and trees for fruit :)

Must.... Find.... More.... Land....

I have tried beetroot, onions and carrots - these root vegetables grew but the growth rate did not match its dirt garden counterpart.

Add sweet corn and rhubarb to the list of stuff that grows well in AP

Lettuce
Diet Nutrition
Lettuce is exceptionally low in calories and contains over 90% water. However, dark lettuce leaves are rich in folate and contain useful amounts of beta-carotene as well as vitamin C, potassium and certain phyto-chemicals (coumarins, flavonoids and lactucin) that act as a mild sedative, especially when eaten with bread.

Calories in Lettuce:
4 oz/100g = 13 calories

So you mean my favourite 'iceberg' lettuce is just water and a bit of fibre?? :-( and I thought it was so good for me... I'm not much of a fan of the gormet lettuces... guess I have to start acquiring a taste.
