Hello, I've stumbled upon this nice website when I was researching aquaponics. You guys (and gals) have some very nice systems set up!

We are currently looking for a new house with a big enough patch of land to be able to live totally self sufficient. One of the things I want to set up is a semi-commercial aquaponics system. We don't want to go too big, just big enough to have our own food and some extra to sell at the farmers market so we can make some money to cover insurance, schoolbooks for the kids and anything else one needs to survive.

I probably want to grow carp, tench and zander, but I'm also leaning towards tilapia lately, with the biggest problem there being the temperature the tilapia needs to thrive. For now its just research, research, research, so we'll know just what to do when we find a new home.

I've just set up a blog where I keep track of my ideas and research you can visit it at Selfsufficientlife.net if you're interested.

Nico

Hey Nico, there's been a fair bit of discussion about small commercial systems. Interesting website you have..

I will be following your blog. How long of a growing season do you have? What are the temps like?

I'd say about 7 or 8 months of optimal growing, but I plan to build a greenhouse to be able to grow year-round.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :D
