I'd have to be honest and say that I also am extremely glad that Johnnie has gone.... and Australia has in a sense clearly sweep the old away

Because now there is an opportunity to shape this country for the future and the future of our children.

It will not be an easy task. Not just for possible economic reasons but also due to the fact that in only a few years most of the Australian population will be at an age when perhaps they will tend to look back to the comfort of their past and perhaps struggle somewhat with the adaption of the future.

Remember the demographics in the years to come will place greater pressure on our children and this nations economy in ways that we,but more particularly our children, have never had to face before.

In a world off globalised industries and economies, possible desperate adjustments because of climatic conditions and pressures to maintain entrenched advantages against dwindling resources...... our children will need all the support and wisdom that we can muster and offer.

Am hoping that the line is not too long at lunchtime

The funniest thing i sawtoday was Jonnie on the news when he turned up to the polling booth. He tried to jump to the front of the line and was told to get to the back. Had to wait in line 25 minutes.

Jeez Rupe - some would wonder whether you are trying to make excuses for ppor performance before the job has even begun

Nope, I do believe the newly elected government is more likely to be able to adapt and embrace the challenges of the future.....

But you can be rest assured... I'll be just as quick to hold them to account for failure to do so

The next decade is the future of not only my children, but this country and possibly humanity as a whole......

No I think Rupe is being a realist.
There will be a lot of changes ahead for the country, not just the reasons Rupe has mentioned...
We have had premium growth for 10years in the west how sustainable can it be??

Think it through......

The very real possibility of a US recession and the ripple through global economies that will cause.....

An inevitable, maybe not immediately imminent but inevitable, slow down in the Chinese and Indian economies.....

Economic pressures placed upon markets due to environmental readjustments. Potential affect of global oil shortages....

Possibility of continued drought and negative returns from our agricultural industries....

Complete collapse and abandonment of our manufacturing industries....

2/3 rds of the Australian population aged over 60...... the lowest number of participants in the workforce in Australias history.....

Just what jobs will be available to our children in what industries and how will we pay them if there's a global downturn.....

How will we provide the necessary services to our vast "elderly" population base with such a small taxation base.... our children.....

By taxing them !!!!

Think about it..... I'm not convinced that most of our politicians have

Rupe the salvation is in the service industry.
There are so many ppl with the spending cash reserves to keep us going for decades.
The biggest issue will be the cost of transport, so that when the industry downturn happens, work closer to home is possible, to keep the wolf from the door.
The imigration of well heeld europeans having sold properties for millions of pounds/euros are arriving in there droves to the renewed Lucky country.
Having 100,000 ppl arriving with cash and jobs to settle here every year
is a huge industry.
It has been reported that WA has an net influx of 40,000 ppl per annum.
The Service industry will become the new biggest employer if not already.
IMHO..sorry for rant!!!

let us hope that history doesn't repeat itself with labor and we see 17% interest rates.
i just signed a contract on a house today to. Rudd better be ready to control his tax and spend counter parts and stick to his claims of being an economic conservative. If they don't, you'll see that 7% swing back to liberal quick smart

kev's about as powerless to prevent a rate rise as JH was.

Best solution? stop spending and if you can't afford the loan at 3% higher than what it is, then don't get it
