Have you got silvers or jades Jaymie. I gotta say I am very unimpressed witht he growth rate for the silvers - impressed with Jades though.

VB Ive got Jades.
They are now feeding vigorously after months of hibernation and are getting pretty big. I'm going to take a sample at christmas to see just how big :) Got another 5/6 weeks of growth yet.
I'll have to get started on the smoker :)

Cheers

I have designs for a large smoker that I designed and was planning on selling on eBay, but for AP ppl, I will issue it direct to their email if they want. But I wont (for obvious reasons) post it on a public site.

I agree with you on the water temps Steve. My trout are still doing fine with water temps around 24c and that is with no supplementary aeration.
I suspect that those having trouble with trout at lower temps dont have enough flow through of water or are overstocked.
That fish with the eggs must have been an older fish as trout dont put down eggs until their second winter and judging by the colour of them they were old eggs from the winter just gone. Rainbow Trout canot re-absorb their eggs, as many other fish species can, and will die after 2 successive years worth of eggs have been developed and become trapped in their gut cavity.

So "milking" them will actually prolong their lives then Troutman?

Thats right Rup, if you get the eggs out you prolong their life.
Its also another reason why Triploid trout have become so popular for stocking dams (where trout canot breed) as well as faster growth rates you also get fish that live longer.

very cool info. so if i wanted to keep a specimine in an aquarium i'd be better off with a male for long term.

anyway, bit of an update. i was out ALL day yester day, got home at 9:30 pm and went to bed.

was a very long day today in the sun, and i was fully prepared for what was to be a certainty when i got home. i just wish i'd have gutted the last four, now the chooks and dog have them ;) I don't think ANYONE expected the trout to survive water temps of 30C ;)
