dwv.

the fitting leaks unless you use a shit load of thread tape. don't know what it's called. Take your chosen fitting along to the hardware shop and have a play around with the dwv fittings.

1. Is there an adaptor to convert from DWV pipe to pressure pipe?
2. Am I correct in gleaning that it's safer to use pressure pipe instead of DWV pipe?
3. If DWV pipe is ok to use, is it ok to use stormwater pipe? (Is it the same material?)

So many questions ... I have much to learn. :?

scott

pressure seems to have greater range of fitting than DWV

no adaptor that i know of

none of the pressures we use would need pressure pipe

storm water ma have significantly different make up, but i'm not sure. its usually blue colour

In my understanding:

1) nope, be nice if there was though

2) yep

3) nope, it is diffrent, has a foam sandwich layer so is especially no good for outer standpipes etc where the pipe is drilled.

monya, the DWV i now buy also has foam sandwich. i think its a cost cutting thing, foam is cheaper than pvc

I was looking at the cross-section of the 3m lengths of stormwater pipe at B today - I couldn't see any foam layer. :?

The stormwater pipe is 90mm diameter anyway. Is there any way to connect it to DWV?

So is DWV pipe ok for non-standpipe usage? ie. for drainage plumbing?

Hi Worms,

What is that adaptor fitting you are using called?
What size pipes are you connecting? (eg. 40mm pressure to 40mm DWV)

The pressure valves look like they are connected straight to DWV pipe without any adaptor! Is that right?

With the DWV pipe I'm assuming the foam layer is the blue one in the middle. Why is it no good when drilled. :? I've got a section ready to install that has been drilled and cut. Should I be getting a new piece and start again?

Don't make standpipes out of pipe containing a foam layer. Read this topic: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum ... php?t=2005

There are mixed opinions about whether DWV pipe should be used in AP systems at all.

its called a 40mm MI Adapter (m stands for male, can get fi as well)

40 mi adpter screws into 40mm prssure fittings
(i.e. valves) on one side and will glue straight onto dwv the other. you need that female threaded pressure fitting for it to work. if you just want to join pipe tp pipe you will need a 40mm prs conector to 40mm pres bush (male glue on fitting to female thread) to dwv. make sense?

look closely at pics, all connections to pressure fitting are screwed in. hope i've helped.

Well, after a visit to the local Tradelink store, it turns out my problem wasn't as difficult as I imagined. As TonyFromWestOz pointed out (in another topic) what I actually wanted was to convert from BSP (the thread on the drain) to PVC, not DWV-to-PVC which is much harder (though Worms has accomplished it).

So, now I'm very pleased that I can use pressure PVC everywhere & avoid DWV. :)

An update.

It's been a busy weekend. My better half & I plugged up all the holes in the bathtubs & converted our library into a "spa room"! :)

Also bought 40mm & 50mm pressure pipe. I've ordered a pump from Joel & PVC fittings from wetearth - hopefully they'll all arrive this week & we can start plumbing next weekend!

The besser blocks are to raise growbed #2 & let it drain into the corner (Yabbie) tank.

The blue clam has been growing Azolla for months - fish food.
