I had another fish dead this morning, 2 in 2 days tells me something is wrong.

i did a water test, and the results are perfect. they don't have any growths or bloody patches on them and nothing toxic has been anywhere near the tank.

The only thing i can think of, is maybe bullying is killing them? i have a little bug eyed goldie in there and he likes to pick on everyone, though the corpses don't show any signs of damage at all.

it's also worth noting it's only the NEW fish that have kicked the bucket, could this be just one of those things where not everyone lives?

What fish are we talking about as they have different requirements?
When you say new fish, how many, where did they come from and how did you aclimatise them?
We have had 2 days where the water temperature could be 30 degrees, where is the tank situated?

they are goldfish in an outside tub that's mostly shaded from the sun.
it gets a crack of sun on it at midday

sounds like you got some dodgy fish.

How big and where did you get hem from... I have never had any luck with the ordinary run of the mill comets. I used to lose 1 a week when I had them. I never worked out what it was. I have swordtails in the same tank no problems... They used to just die, no marks, no injuries nothing....

i didn't lose any the first time i bought from this place so i just assumed they were ok.
the fish all looked healthy and showed no signs of being unhappy, then a few hours later they carked it for no reason.
i'm going to hold off feeding them for a few days and see if maybe the once a day feeding is too much for the new fish.
i'm pretty peeved about this 2nd one he was a really unusual looking fish, with a brillant gold color and a dark black stripe down his back.

wouldn't surprise me if it has something to do with inbreeding depression. as they are so inbred they have probably lost a lot of the stress/ disease resistance genes that they had when in the wild. sure they may look pretty but in the process have lost what i call "environmental coping genes". the ability to deal with stress and disease ect.

Sounds like a good theory... They are manic depressive goldfish, with no will to live.

I would imagine it's just different conditions. Last time you got them water conditions may have matched the tubs more closely. What sort of temp readings are you getting through the day?
They also may not have traveled so well. Next time I would ask the breeder what water conditions he has, espec temp wise.
Isn't it always the way tho... pretty fish always dies first.

pretty fish are usually bred in close to optimal conditions so even the weak survive. ugly fish however are often left to their own devices in sub optimal conditions so the tough ones naturally survive. perhaps it is better to use pond bred fish rather then aquarium for this reason. just a thought.
