note with broad beans, apprently they should be consumed within 48 hrs of picking as the carbohydrates begins to be converted to sugars.

Here are some more interesting facts.

Anyone with G6PD can simply ensure that the beans are cooked before eating but i assume that anyone with this disorder would already know ;)

*************************************************************
Broad beans are rich in tyramine, and thus should be avoided by those taking monoamine oxidase (MAOI) inhibitors.

Raw broad beans contain vicine and convicine, which can induce hemolytic anemia in patients with the hereditary condition glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD). This potentially fatal condition is called "favism" after the fava bean.

Broad beans are rich in L-dopa, a substance used medically in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. L-dopa is also a natriuretic agent, which might help in controlling hypertension. Some also use fava beans as a natural alternative to drugs like Viagra, citing a link between L-dopa production and the human libido.

ok so a few days ago i decided to give my bath tub a freshen up. :)

pulled the remaining broad beans out (just had then for breakfast now ;)) dug around and removed some roots, found a few TRULY HUGE earth worms, not sure where the composting worms were maybe deeper down.......

anyway, jacked up (literally) the right hand side of the grow bed that had been flooding and becoming quite anerobic.

This is where the grow bed ratio comes in................i never had problems with nitrates but the bed has been so densly planted out so many times that it is quite full of crud and the water is struggling to drain out. for a bit of a test i jacked it up to a huge angle and the water seem like it still prefered to just traverse the top of the bed rather than down through it. This is only a problem on the far 1/3 of the bed.

Today, according to the lazyness model of life, rather than dig out and waste all my cruddy goodness i simply layed another layer of gravel on top and planted away  in the middle you can see capsicums a few tommies to the left and a strawberry too. later today i'm going to layer the far right with more gravel and maybe just leave it as a really large RSG or more probably plant some true water cress over it ;)

Here are some pics
