Hi all,
love this forum
little 1 year old Claire, crawling on the grass in the complete system pre-installation shots is my niece. She'll be eating barramundi soon.
Our water temps are cooler over here in Ballarat.
What suggestions regarding fish to start with [ after the mandatory goldfish as the system matures] ? Ideas welcome!
:?

We are looking forward to shots of Claire and the proposed AP system location.
I am a newbie here also, so I can't make any authoritative suggestions, perhaps Silver Perch?

Tony

Gday highlander. Jim has a great system going in buninyong. I haven't caught up with him yet but i am sure he would be happy to see another local on board the ap band wagon. He can take you thru trials and tribulations and advise on best local fish.Think his thread is title Jim's System.
Ballarat trout hatchery is next to the botanical gardens and they are good people to chat with and you can usually get a range of sizes. Like everyone else, they had trouble with the heat last summer. Silvers may be hard to locate atm but are a good hardy fish to kick off with. As you know, we love pics!

Thanks LKB and others,
Reading the book [download free on line from earth policy.org] by Lester Brown, called "Plan B 3.0", all about climate change/oil peak/food subversion to car fuel ethanol production etc etc - aquaponics is a crucial part of the solutions we all need to implement. Some inspiring stats also in the book about the explosion of fresh water aquaculture world wide, and alas the problems with just aquaculture on its own. Again, aquaponics meets the need in a balanced way. Am looking forward to getting my system together - funny how landscaping ain't cheap :) -and then we will do it. The trout/ silvers combination sounds ideal for Ballarat. BTW - Jim and his wife hosted a brilliant BBQ/ AP get together. Best Wishes, Andrew
