Two products ....

http://www.sika.com.au/cmc/Datasheets/t ... TE-PUD.pdf

http://www.sika.com.au/cmc/Datasheets/t ... BE_tds.pdf

First is cited as suitable for water immersion...

Second as meeting "potable" standards

Ok... so there's at least two "potable" approved types and one approved for constant water immersion.... wonder what the differences are.... just bonding qualities with different materials I guess

.... thought it was "Sikaflex" that Jaymie had used actually....

I used Sikatite (black goop) for sealing the concrete and steel and I used Sikaflex (grey goop) for joins etc.

When the tank was repaired and the concrete added, Sikaflex (grey) was put across the joins between the concrete and the steel. Then numerous coats of Sikatite (black) was painted on the concrete and steel.

Any small holes in the coro bed were sealed with Flex and painted over with Tite. The whole bed was painted with Tite.

Hi Tree beard

Couple of Crommelins products.

First one Radcon 7 which I have tried. This is unusual in that it penetrates and seals the concrete with a silica hydrophobic barrier. It can be applied with a normal garden sprayer or brush. It will reseal very small cracks as it does not harden. Supposed to be guaranteed for 25 yrs. Given the tanks you will be using this would be my first choice.

Second is elastoseal which I am thinking of using on fiberglass troughs which have cracks in the gel coat (also goes on cement) Dries to a coating like butyl rubber (got some sample strips).

Hi Sleepe and all

Have just printed everything and had a good read. The Radcon#7 Seems to be the better option based on the type of tanks I have so will pop out and get it costed (very small piggy bank, as far as the wife is concerned should probably be stealth Aquaponics:). The Sikaflex may be the go when sealing pipes and plumbing.

Again thanks for the input.

Then tell the wife to take a shower ( a long one) while you check for leaks ......

then nip out and paint the tanks real quick :D

Sorry about that, I personally am into minimal cost but have not bought Radcon for ages. Checked Cromelins over here, quoted me $75 + gst per litre (covers 5 square meters per litre) still damned expensive. Sika is pretty pricy (and good). Have you got a Bunnings store over there? Usually the cheapest. With concrete there are a number of options. My next option would have been one of the Bondall products, but I see they are also in WA.
I suspect all these products are going up here because of the mining boom.
Going to have to leave it to one of the NSW members to advise if there are any manufacturers there. The old way of sealing was with a bitumen paint, but I am unsure of who makes that now.
