Remeber Tim, to utilise DX10 means not only Vista, but a DX10 video card.... that means a PCI-X slot is required in your system and a minimum FSB of 575Mhz....

Even high-end DX9 graphics cards can already pull down almost 150 W without blinking... the new nVidia Geforce 8800GTX (about $600+) and ATI Radeon cards utilise DDR4 ram (typically 768Mb) and will probably pull up to twice that....(haven't got a measure yet)

Then there's the heat dissipation issue...

I've seen reviews that suggest that to run a "Media Centre" Vista PC with dual TV receivers, two SATA 300Gb drives, a DVDRW and a DX10 card will need up to a 1000W power supply.

And you have to remember also that not all versions of Vista will run DX10.....

Well without DDR2, limited dual-core support if any, only and 8x bus speed on the AGP... Hmmm.... I dunno... Vista will be kinda choppy... let alone any DX10 games....

A few days ago I participated in a lively forum debate about how Leopard would be received by the masses. Like Vista it was long awaited, like Vista the launch was delayed, and like Vista, I got the impression from some of the Apple techies on the forum that Apple rushed a bit to get it out of the door because the Mac fanboys were getting restless.

Leopard debuted to some really glowing reviews written by some of Apple’s biggest and most widely read fanboys, but now that the OS is in the hands the people that really matter, the feedback is far from glowing.

I have to admit that I’m surprised and a little shocked at the types of bugs being reported as affecting Leopard, not to mention the volume of people that appear to be affected.

Like all major operating software releases I expected a few random issues, along with a few minor bugs, but I certainly didn’t dream that I would be reading widespread reports of BSODs (Blue Screens of Death, usually associated with Windows boxes), crashes and severe performance issues.

Apparantly there’s also a pretty major flaw affecting FileVault too. Many of these issues affect those upgrading over the top of their existing OS, but others are reporting similar issues with clean installs.

Some Apple users and techies are apparantly so frustrated that they are considering going down the same road that some Vista users have gone down - and reverting back to the previous version of the OS.

Oh, and for those that live in the "I've got a Mac, I don't get viruses or spyware" world, let’s not forget the new Mac Trojan.

This isn’t getting a lot of press but it’s pretty significant because it’s the first time that a professional malware group has targeted Mac users. Remember, these guys are only following the money.

As far as I know, it's not widespread. But this is the first targeted, real attack on Mac users by a professional malware group.

As one security researcher put it:

“This is pretty groundbreaking, actually. Not from the standpoint of ‘malware can exist on Mac too’ (everybody who's not a moron knew that), but really from the fact that this actual malware created by real malware groups, not one of those useless proof-of-concept of ‘malware can exist on Mac too’.”

For info on the Trogan have a look at this link...

How much does M$ actually pay you? I love this little (emphasise little) attack on Macs....

Firstly the Trojan.... If you are silly enough to go to a dodgy porn site, download a codec .dmg file (for a flash video player) and then run it, I think you deserve to get a virus... Its just like me sending you a .bat file or .exe and you opening it without wondering what it is...

Secondly... Leopard far... far surpasses Vista as an operating system...

If a few installation problems is all that is wrong with it then bring it on... I wonder how many people have successfully upgrade XP to Vista without any driver or related errors... Leopard also makes the OS run faster in my experience, unlike the resource hog called vista... Don't forget the cost difference.
