Never realised just how big those trout were until I saw them on the BBQ...

Dunno reckon they were dwarfed a bit by the silvers! ;)

thank you for the names Faye :D

Looked like a great feed and of course Tony has kept up with the proud AP tradition of making people work for that feed

lol, I was wondering if you guys and girls would clean that pond
You need a before shot to show why it was emptied

Looking forward to seeing tony's system completed, and hopefully not having to lift it.

Colin

Thanks to the gents for the assist in elevating the GB by one brick height. It was a little low for the drain (storm water pipe). The drain was installed after adding the 1KL sump (currently being used as the FT), and I didn't have enough height to allow the GB to drain properly. A bit hard to lift without a few others to assist. It is working perfectly now.

The pond being emptied by Faye and Tayo, is the reason for my presence on this forum. I wanted to do something to clear the algae, so we could see the Gold Fish. Apart from a week after total water changes, I have not managed to have clear water in this pond. This pond is also spectacular in the way pH rises meteorically. See This thread for the saga.

On Saturday, we did a 100% water change with my bore water, which had a pH of around 6.6 (+/- 0.2).
Today, I measured the pH at 8.4 !!!

There are no reactive rocks in the system. The plants I had removed from the pond, placed in a 100L tub for a week, had water measuring pH 7.4. These were added back into the pond along with my silver-beet and parsley and some Lebanese Watercress supplied by Joel. The GB is small, but there are only 8 GF in the pond and they survived well with the plants (Irises) and no GB before this.

My other BYAP effort (seen in the photo) and my brood stock aquarium, have stable pH and they appear to be fully cycled now.

Although the wind was cold, it was an enjoyable afternoon, and the company was excellent.

Thanks to Delgrade, Outback and Duckpond for attending and making the afternoon memorable. A big thank you to Joel and Faye for bringing along the fish, salad and plants to share. Our meat was left for dinner, but we were so full from the feast that we only cooked half of it for dinner. Leftover salads from lunch time were finished off with the meat at dinner time.

We are looking forward to the next WA BYAP GTG.

Any volunteers?

Tony

i'm wondering if it had a high CO2 content, thus carbonic acid content. once the CO2 is released and the water has a high O2 content the PH may rise, espectially if there is a caertain amount of KH. Mmmmmm, AP science ;)
