Ok I have got an up date on my shopping cart system.

Ok the end caps on the NFT tubes are the green draining pipe caps.
For days ago I took one of the NFT tubes, and cut the top 1/3 off and filled it up with gravel, and I am planning to do this to the other soon.

I am doing that because of the solid fish poopy  problem like how we talked earlier. I know it won’t take care of the solids as well as a 5gal bucket would, but, it’s a better place for the bacteria to live in then net pots. And it gives my more planting space.

Three days ago, I bought the 1st fish :wav: they are two 3-4" goldfish I bought at Petsmart for 24cents each. They are doing very well.

My pH is reading at 7.2 for the past 2 days. And I have a trace of nitrite.

I planted last night Spinach seeds, Basil Seeds, and Romaine lettice seeds in that open NFT tube.

It is all coming together.

But help me out, a name for the system, and naming the fish, I am not to good at that.

Thank you

`dankfish

Shop-aponics System.

Don't name the fish unless you're really good at fish keeping.

just a couple of thangs, i moved out to an apparement where the only extra outdoor space (the shoping cart is to big to be inside) is an 4' by 7' patio, with no power outlet, its a south faceing patio, and in the summer thats bad becuase it gets over 125F all ready this year. talk about fish fry.

the best option is to recycle the cart and make a new system.
ill figure out what i can do

i think i know what i am going to do for a system.

its going to be a 50g tank with 50g of grow bed filled with hydrotron.

i am going to get 2 50g rubbermaid totes one for the bed and one for the fish tank.

i am thinking of doing it NFT style.

my only debate is to use lights or the sun. i am leaning more towards lights just for the private reasons of it all. idk

tell me what you think

Welcome back DF!

Are you talking about the shallow 50 gallon ones like what Janet has for beds? These are great for beds but too shallow for the fish tank. Or, are you talking the bed is a shallow 50g and the tank is a deeper 50g one?

hey dave nice to be talking to you again, how is every thing?

i wish i had that type of cash to get a janet type system going on.

im going a little cheaper route with storage totes. the ones i am looking at are 42.7long x21.4 High x18Wide in.

heres a link for you: http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/pr ... rod2947118

i am able to get these totes from home depot for about $20.

do you think these will work?
