Allow myself to introduce ..................... myself

I live in Melbourne at the moment but am planning on returning home to Aotearoa soon.

When I am home I want to start up an aquaponics system and want to grow an eating fish but don't know what my choices are. Can someone help out?

Trout is the obvious one but I don't like the taste

many tanks

As far as I'm aware, all freshwater species of fish are edible. Differences come in with taste, how well they tolerate stocking densities, and temperature requirements.

With that said, native fish are usually easier to source and maintain. A lot of the Aussies raise various kinds of perch. You might also think about catfish.

Thanks Rupert, I did search before I asked, honest

mmmm catfish could be an option.

Can I use the same fish in Oz? That way I would be building knowledge and familiarity with the breed before I went back to NZ.

I used to live in Rotorua, looks like there are a couple of guys there with AP systems. Could be a roadtrip coming up....

Think catfish are pretty much catfish all over the world Trent...

In OZ it's mainly Tandanus Tandanus, the "eel-tailed" catfish that everyone has gone with.

P.S.... you're seriously not thinking of going back to live in Rotorua are you :D
