All you lot are invited to my after election party (except this vegetable boy fruit cake). I expect to be claiming victory at about 6.15pm. Be there or be square (like me ).

An Ap system in every second backyard by Kevin07's 6th term as PM.

I used to live in Kevs electorate. When he was campaigning to get in for the first time, he'd come around to my place for a chat - to rally support.

I'll never forget the night that I went down to Red Rooster - think it was the Monday after the election, only to see Kevy there looking like the cat had dragged him in. Unshaven and looked like he had been crying for days or had been on a major bender (maybe both). He had lost the election - and was not real happy about it. Seing that, you'd have never thought he'd be where he is today. Gotta give him credit for that.

VB, I hear what you're saying regarding unions....

And bother-boy Hockey is right when he says that workers have voted with their feet over the actions of unions.

I was brought up in NZ amongst a staunch area of trade unionists....

And was appaled when I came to Australia and saw the way unions operated and dictated to their members...

To me this very issue and attitudes to unions is a reflection on what has happened to democracy and politics in general in Australia over the last twenty years....

We as citizens, to quote the old adage, with a general "she'll be right" attitude have abdicated our responsibilities in regard to our democratic rights and responsibilites.

We let our union officials and our politicians dictate to US when in fact it is US that should dictate to them.... they are OUR representatives....

But by not taking part in the political process and not maintaining an interest and level of political awareness and debate...

We have allowed the people in political organisations.... be they party politics, local councils, unions, employer groups etc to dictate social policy and enact laws which ultimately further restrict our democratic rights.

Democracy is not just our right, but our responsibility....

And when we abdicate that responsibility we get governements and other bodies that lie to us, ignore us, mislead us and generally treat us with contempt....

And frankly I believe this current government is one of the most arrogant self serving undemocratic governments this country has ever had....

Do we need more of them.....

Well if WE don't begin to demand better, you can bet your last dollar that we'll get more of the same... regardless of the name of the party in governmment.
