unfortunately my wife also has plans for the money and wants to spend it on a home theater system. hehe only kidding.

Don't kid, a lady i did a job at recently was quite happy boasting about her plasma and pointing at her newborn said "junior paid for that"

Yep, great use of the incentive

btw you guys shouldn't really encourage my ap addiction. quite frankly its irresponsible. it would be like telling a gambling addict to go on a gambling spree or an alco to go on a drinking binge. shame on you guys. i am an apoholic.

Wait wait wait.....you guys get paid to have a baby? I heard that France was doing that, and maybe some other countries, but I didn't realize that Australia was doing it. For real? What is the whole deal? What if you do an out-of-country adoption? Do you get paid then, too? (I probably don't really want to know the answer to those last two. Personal pet peeve of mine is inequitable treatment of those who give birth as opposed to those who adopt.)

Obviously we don't get paid baby bonuses over here.

Our Prime Minister wants us to have one for the Mum, one for the dad, and one for the country.
After that its one for the new AP system.
Steve's right though, unfortunatly I've seen too many people blow the money on luxuries and have nothing left for necessaties.
Worse still, I've even seen people to have a baby so that they can pay off their drug debts, and the baby eds up in foster care

Yeah... think we should actually fine people like that $5000 for the abandonment and abuse of an innocent..... and $5000 to repay the debt....

And bugger it $5000 just for being morons....

my girlfriend is pregenat as well and we're having a home birth with a midwife as well. no way i want to have my child in the hospital if it can be avoided. homebirths with midwives have lower incedents of complications then hospital births. laura is almost 5 months along.

congrats mrgrackletx,

its good to hear someone else here is looking into home birth at roughly the same time as us. it would be good if we could keep in communication along the way.

just saw the new michael moore film "sicko" and it would be scary to have to use the hospital system in the us. i thought it was bad here until i saw the film. a real eye opener. sure he's biased as hell but if half of what he says is true the god damn. what a sick world we live in.

has anyone else seen the film?

We missed out on our first, but picked it up for the second. I'm all for it - really helps out with the very significant costs involved. It is a shame though that some idiots would have kids just to get the bonus.

Like many others here no doubt, we also missed out on the first home buyers grants. Bought in between the old scheme and the new one.

Regarding adoptions, yes the baby bonus is applicable - as it should be.
