Thanks for the info TT.

Haven't heard about the McRoberts grading tank, but have heard about grading pumps, which suck the fish in and grade, count and seperate the fish with minimal stress.

Another good thing about grading/handling with clove oil, is it has no witholding period, unlike other anaestetics with X amount of degree days witholding period (that and its derived from a spice, mmm)

Hey Daniel.
The McRoberts thing is ultra stress free. Interchangeable manually adjusted sieves used to grade them. Watched it from a dvd so google it and u will prolly get a video.

Clove oil is apparently not the done thing any more. We are supposed to use Aqueous (sp) which is apparently a healthier alternative.

AQU-IS is a more refined form of clove oil, so i would imagine you would just need less. Clove oil is still used around the place, so i doubt there realy is a problem with clove oil....except maybe its effectivness on nocking out the fish compared to AQU-IS

Steve, you can get Clove Oil from any chemist. Its used to relieve tooth ache apparently. Costs only a couple of bucks for a small bottle. The aquaculture industry has moved away from Clove Oil as they are now saying its carsonogenic!!

i've heard rumor's of fishermen up north walking into to ocean and emptying out bottles of clove oil to knock out fish for easy harvest. the same fish are then exported to an unsuspecting market. from what i gather this is just the tip of the ice berg. by the sounds of it the fishing industry is a very dirty one. how people can justify this i don't know.

Thanx for the source TM :)

gotta read up on that. on the surface it sounds like a industry conspiracy. (love a good conpiracy :))

BF i've read of fishermen O/S that go for marine fish / coral for the aquarium trade using cyanide to stun / disable fish............

TM, carsonagenic for the fish or us?
Because it it derived from cloves, would that make the cloves themselves carsonagenic too? Corned beef wouldn't taste the same without them
