ah well atleast no one has crapped on design #1 yet

no fish deaths yet either, they are all swimming around happily so far. I guess the test will be if i haven't had any deaths by the end of the week. I fly back to work for a week on friday so i'll either come home to a healthy system with some plant growth or i'll have a tank full of dead fish.

not yet, I kind of figure if i see something going wrong and i'm home to do something about it I'll get one.

I transplanted 2 of my strawberry plants into one of the tubs before and sowed some spinach seeds directly into the bed. when i dug into the bottom of the bed it got kind of gooey and brown? i'm guessing this is the bio film i read about.

Has anyone tried the split corrugated conduit (black) used in automotive electrical wiring as a slip on cover for clear tubing? It will allow flexibility and ease of removal to check for blockages, while excluding light.

Never used it, but don't see why it won't work...

5 days in and i've now transplanted 5 strawberry plants into the system. they showed no signs of disliking the move at all.
tomatoes have started flowering.
The fish are doing really well.

this is day 12.
blocked pipe forced me to dig 50% on one bed out and replant 2 strawberries - major pain in the arse.
hopefully it won't disturb the system too much, nothing seems to be wilting, so it can't be too bad.

if you look closely in front of the rear bed's stand pipe, you can see 3 green shoot poking out of the rocks - that's spinach planted from seeds. hard to see in that photo but there's 3 rows of it in from of the straw berries and it's all poking through the rocks

25 days in and 13 days after my last post. everything has doubled in size in 13 days.
getting a strawberry per week per plant and it's getting covered in them now, not just fizzling out with them like before.
