Thanks for the quick reply - I was able to dump in 2kg of sea salt while I was there.

Unfortunately 4 more had died since yesterday... =( I saw a bit of red around the gills which might be ICH.

Is the 2kg salt going to fix 'em up or do I need something else?

If you're suspect Ich Gemmel then you probably need to treat with at least 4ppt, some say up to 6ppt....

So I'd throw another 2Kg in ....

The tank is quite green. I've seen the koi eating some of the algae, but they're pretty stand offish with the koi food.

If i up the salt to 4ppt then my plants will suffer and possibly die right?

might even be severe PH swings because of the algae

Ammonia, Nitrite are both zero or close enough to be zero.

PH is high, and I've been trying to work out whats going on there with no success.

They haven't been up at the surface gulping for air or anything.... why do you suspect O2? I will put the spare bubbler in tomorrow.

Think Steve is suggesting that the algae will be robbing the oxygen from the tank water and swinging the pH rapidly as it does so....

i have wanted some one at pea soup stage for a while, if you can get some barley straw and put it in a mesh bag and put it in your tank.
Apparently does wonders for killing algae without hurting the fish.
Also you have to remembe that any ammonia with a high pH is a bad thing.
hope things get better.

I see (said the blind man).

I will do the following:
1) Get the bubbler in the tank.
2) Obtain some barley straw and dangle it in the tank
3) Get some shade cloth to block out the light.
Thanks for the help guys, you rock.

I have similar in my tank, algae walls, clear water. Probably explains my occasional spikes in PH. I wonder where I can get a handful of barley straw.

Any other easy ways to kill the algae? I've got some pond clear liquid, but not sure if that would be bad for the veges.

So here's the latest dead fish. It had white fungusy stuff on it, but I noticed some red...is this ich?

I have 1 grow bed which doesn't have any plants in it as yet, I'm thinking that I can dose up the tank with 4-6ppt salt and just use the 1 bed for filtration. How long does it take for ICH or at least whatever this white fungus is to heal up?
