Hell no - it was the frost. Was healthy as until a black frost hit one night -5 I estimate. Killed heaps of stuff around here. Even burnt the golden canes big time (I don't care cause I hate the stuff). Frost got all the usual stuff - toms, basil, the paw paw and a couple of other things that aren't frost tolerant.

Tis been ages since I did an update, because things just cruise along so there isn't that much to say.

About 25 fish uneaten. I feed them about 1kg of pellets per week. They slam the floating pellets until they are all gone. Will probably wait until about Christmas until I start harvesting again. I have no idea how big the fish are because I don't get that good a view of them as they slam the feed, but I assume some woudl be over 500 grams (particularly jades), but others (including most of the silvers) are a lot smaller. I'm not certain that my last harvest included the largest fish, though I did eat one that was over 600 grams then (July). I didn't start feeding the fish heavilly again until a few weeks ago when things heated up enough to have the beds running again at night. Without the beds running at night, a proper feeding regime was not possible due to build up of ammonia and nitrite at night.

Plants in grow-bed currently include:
- Mustard greens
- Several types of lettuce
- Endive
- Bell chillis
- Spring onions
- Purple beans
- Snow peas
- Some sort of eggplant (can't remember which type)
- A few tomato plants (different varieties). A bit of fruit on a couple I planted before spring, but the good plants are more recently planted (like a few days ago) and are not flower for a bit yet.
- A wasabit plant (a bit too hot for it so may die)
- Italian parsley
- Kale
- Silverbeet and rainbow chard
- Sugarcane ()
- Maybe some other stuff that I've forgotten

There are some spots where gravel can be seen , mainly because I had to make a few spots for the tomatoes to be planted. The toms are all indeterminate types and I will grow them using the method espoused here.

Anyway - here are a few pics:

A couple more:

File comment: Tomatoes. The ones with the fruit are not doing all that well. They were planted very early (still in winter) and had self sown in the dirt garden.

Takes the bitter taste away (to an extent) to make it edible. I didn't realise you were meant to do this till I read something about it a couple of weeks ago.

Never heard of it either.... we've scoffed our way through about three plants (non stop) over winter....

The remaining three (with the spring flush) are now about 600mm tall and nearly a metre round......

I can't stand the taste of mine. I've gotta admit that when I bought the seedlings (about a 100 of them in a little pot) I was thinking of Mizuna. As soon as I got home I realised it was endive. Mine is very, very bitter. Although the mustard is pretty tasty (quite hot), it is great in a salad.
