Thank you, TD! :curtsey:

I don't have enough of a gene pool to do more than breed fingerlings to stock my growout tank. Any fry from me would all be siblings or half siblings. If you can't get a better gene pool somewhere else, we'll talk.

WANTED- alive not dead - TILAPIA

The Ebay guy, bardpaper, writes back to say he sold his whole lot to a guy from Florida- 2 trips with a truck to haul them, so he has none to sell at this point.

The FFA near St Louis sounds like a good source, but like people have found out the overnight shipping is a killer. But he is willing to ship 100 small ones for 50$ UPS total but I takes my chances on survival- says it will be 2 to 3 days ship time.

My nephew is taking a conservation class in high school nearby here and said they have an AP system set up so I gave his teacher a call. They raised tilapia 2 years ago when another nearby FFA was breeding and selling Tilapia but they quit, so they have switched to channel catfish since then. He said he liked the tilapia and would do some checking around with his sources to see if can get some. Thought there may be a few hatcheries in PA but I have my doubts. A nice guy but I got the feeling it is a long shot getting fish through him.

Have not checked the Florida place, but the shipping is a bit steep. Am tempted to take my chances with the FFA and get 100. Or the possibility of catfish which I have not considered but I 'm not finding much info here about them and I think I may like the tilapia better .

Not much luck with goldfish either. Where I am working they have a goldfish pond with 30 or 40 fish but when I got the net out they turned coy[koi?] and the water was murky and they disappeared. Will try again soon.

Took some more pictures of plants and stuff if anyone is interested and can explain how to post them here. No problem resizing, just posting. Also maybe I should move this to member systems ?

TD, couple of places that might be able to help you out, or at least point you toward someone....

Place in Burlington, sounds like they've got lots of Talapia ...

Then there's this school Nelson/Pade set up ...

Camp Stone, an Orthodox Jewish summer camp in western Pennsylvania, is using aquaponics and hydroponics to demonstrate sustainable, soiless farming techniques. In May, Nelson and Pade set up an aquaponic growing system in the camp's 30' x 60' greenhouse.

Good info- it is surprising what you have come up with here. And talk about back door- every summer Camp Stone leads hikes for the kids through the small gorge on the back edge of my property. Sugar Grove PA where the camp is located is about 25 miles from me. Will definitely be checking that possibility. :D

Thanks- Timberdoodle

How the heck did you find that?

Road trip. You could visit me. With a month's fair warning, I could have fry ready for you. Of course, it may be a full tank of gas and a 6-7 hour drive to get here. (It might not really be cheaper, and you would have blown 2 days time that you could have been working on the AP system.) Again, they'll all be siblings and half-siblings. That would probably be OK to select breeders in turn to populate your tanks ongoing, but not for establishing a multi-generational line.

If the FFA would use a Kordon Breather Bag, you might have better survivability. I don't have experience with these, but that's what bardpaper was using to make 2-3 day shipping feasible. The FFA would probably have to special order these bags over the internet, or perhaps you could get some and send them some to use on your shipment.

what a generous offer- let me check my budget. I had 1000 for this project and have spent a bit over 1200 so I figure if you pay me 200 to join in the fish hunt all will be good.

Here I thought AP was just a bunch off nice, somewhat odd bunch of regular folks but now I am finding out it seems to be some sort of mysterious secret cabal with tentacles reaching throughout the world. I am beginning to wonder what I have got myself into here and if it is not to late to get out, maybe notify proper author.....be right back, someone's knocking at the door... NOOOOO!!!!!

Valduare -- you might get up to 20- 2" fish in a 10 gallon AP setup -- or less if they are bigger. I've got 11 Tilapia in a 80 gallon system but they probably average a pound apiece. and I've got 4 Pacu 3 Tinfoils 2 6" goldfish and a 6" Pleco in a 40 gal system.
