Mc :rr: ,
This electronic thing kinda evolved

Once upon a time there was this bad dude who invented BYAP and had this band of fanatical AP followers who wanted to improve the concept

The problem came up that once a few large GBs were added to an AP system, the water floating around the GBs began to increase, so the idea was tossed up to have the GBs fed sequentially, thus reducing the amount of water meandering through the GBs to just over one GB full at any one time.

First there was the power door actuators, which were used to open and close flaps and thus divert water flow to feed only one GB at a time – this needed a sensor to activate when water reached a certain height in each GB.

A mechanical water level sensor was initially used, which worked on a float being raised by the rising water until 2 stainless steel bolts touched and activated the power door actuators. This had a couple of disadvantages:
1) It used small hinges that were in a high humidity area and were susceptible to rust causing resistance to the float raising consistently
2) The floats started getting buildup (barnacles) of bio film, became heavier and instead of activating around the 25mm (1”) mark, were activating later and thus the water level was rising higher in the GBs
3) The S/S contacts could get a bio film over the surface and thus cause a malfunction
So now we have a mod to the water level sensor (the light activated switch kit), this has only been in operation for a day but I believe it cancels out all the above disadvantages.

SteveS and TimC are working on similar applications and are in the design stage (mine is up and working :bigsmurf: )

Hope that clears up a bit for you

Lawn bowls would have been okay, Trevor Chappel showed me how to "under arm" :bigsmurf:

Update:

The bell auto siphon on the RSG filter setup has been running flawlessly since connection...just about got it down to plug it in and forget :D

Have converted 5 GBs to the new electronic water level sensor (WLS), Dick Smith Morayfield ran out of kits

I am very happy at how easy they were to install in my system and how well they have run from initial switch on...very easy to set the flood level and have them trigger at that level everytime....obviously need a few months running to check them thoroughly but looking good

Now what the 'ell am I gonna do next

maybe design a sump pump controller with those level sensors...ie a high n low level water sensor that turns the pump on when the water in the sump gets to the high level then turns it off when it reaches the low level ;)

Excellent idea F&F. Then if he gets it to work he can come to my place and test my tank (for comparison) :-)

1)works on 24vdc (gotta work on that)
2)may be an ancient model (having trouble getting any info as yet)
3)gotta have a look to find the connector for it

4)having a ball  (think it may need to be coupled to another box  )

Particulars:
Danfoss Evita oxygen meter
Type: Oxy 1500
24v dc, IP65

must be time to open it up

Here's what I could dig up so far Les.....

Principally "insitu" metres, commonly used in sewerage/waste water applications..... seem to be able to provide input to computer/network systems

http://boxson.com.sg/Merchant2/pdf/OXY_USC-Evita-DO.pdf

http://www.aet-pub.com/pdf/aet/2005/04/ ... 13_016.pdf

Appear to have been taken over by "Hach"....

Maybe email them.... obviously an old superceded model
