Try looking for 'bulkhead fitting' in aquarium supply websites. Like here:

Tamo, I have used PVC fittings (never looked for a bulkhead fitting just used what they had in the plumbing dept), sometimes if the wall of your tub is too thin the fitting will bottom out before it is completely tight. In that case you can saw off a bit of the end of the male fitting so that it doesn't bottom out. Channel lock pliers and vice grips come in handy to tighten them.

DD, that's what I did with my last GB. Worked pretty well.

Tamo, I think it was Simmo, used "blu-tack" on his black tubs to seal around the siphons....

I've used these 19mm irrigation connectors made by "Moss" and "Pope"

Thanks Rupert and janet! I'll have to find a local source for this kind of stuff if my silicone doesn't hold. I have noticed that the first thing I buy for plumbing isn't necessarily the thing I end up with :)

The most expensive part of my whole system is the stash of unused plumbing parts in the lower right drawer. ;)

Heh, I was in the supermarket last night and saw they were selling big plastic tubs 18 gallons for $2. I wanted to take them all, but prudence told me 2 things. 1, 18 gallons isn't all that big, and 2, I need to get my prototype system running first.

Right now though, I'm having non-buyer's remorse!

Just wait until you start coveting things you see in construction sites, and consider stealing them to further your AP addiction!

Nah, but loading the pickup down to the back axles might have been a bit excessive :D

on a completely off topic note (sorry Tamo ;) ) when our house was being built (by the Dodgy Brothers :x ) we had lots of trouble getting the shelves in the wardrobes to stay up (idiots used liquid nails to hold wardrobe shelves and hanging racks up :x ). To avoid us taking them to court, they agreed to supply my brother and I with the consumables we would need to fix the job ourselves. We showed up at the warehouse/shed one day with the trailer to get a few pine studs to build frames in the cupboards. They made the mistake of leaving us alone in the shed for about an hour
It's amazing how many pine studs you can fit into a little trailer
It took us about 6 years to use them all up.

I keep all my receipts and go on a "swapping spree" with these parts - good fun :D (and then I need one that I swapped  )

I'm with you Janet - though I have mine in a couple of big plastic crates. Good fun looking through them when you need some inspiration as to how to solve a problem
