well i think the last of the frost has departed and i am now keen to here what people think I should put in my AP and dirt garden. The dirt garden is restricted to a small dirt patch watered by the grey water pipe. I have about a bed and a half that will be planted out over the next month.

I have already thought of tomatoes, cucumbers, chillis, basil, parsley, pumpkin, zuchini and capsicums.

Now what would would plant for a queensland summer with no shade clothe protection.

keen to here all responses and will plant those I like the most,
Cheers Nick

nick, if you have a hot house i'd love to see someone have a go at growing a vanilla orchid. I was growing one in mackay before i moved to perth and i reckon they would love the constant flood of nutrients in an AP. they like heat and humidity though so in brisbane it will need to be in a hot house.
don't believe anyone that tells you they are slow growing - mine was massive inside of 6 months. you'll need to hand pollenate if you want to get a harvest of beans off them as well.

Timmy - did you manage to get pods? I understand that you need to get them to start growing downwards for them to flower. I have a little bit of a vine here (and I mean little as in a few cm), the rest got eaten by a possum or something. Co-incidentally, today I put this last bit in the grow-bed. They root fairly easilly - so hopefully it will regenerate.

They will start getting flowers once they are atleast 2m in length. that usually entails training them back down so you can actually each them.
mine was just starting to grow the stem the flowers come off when i had to leave for perth, and when i gave it away they managed to get it frost damaged (in mackay if you can believe it) and it wiped the thing pretty bad.

they shoot easily though. once you get a mature plant make cuttings so that you have a backup.

once i have my own place i want to build a hot house and see if i can grow one again.
