Ok So here we go Water tanks two of them. First photo is the two side by side the little one has been here about 25 years or so. Next photo is the width of the ferrocement for the sides and the last one is the width of the top (just to give an idea of strength we stand on the top no problem).

Wow that seems like it would be a real option.

I have a friend in Florida who raises ornamental tropical fish in Burial vaults. These are the cement boxes that are placed in the ground over caskets in a cemetery to seal out the elements. Says he picks them up cheap. Not sure what Cheap means or what is cheap to him but that might be an option for GB and tanks in a place where these are available..

Thanks for the pics, by the way. They were helpful. I am enjoying reading your newsletters as well.

25 years is long enough to be cost effective.

Yeah and they are easy to build and if you have some tin roofing you can make the inside model and reuse it for many years to come. We also make these in the ground use the hole we dug as the wall. and we use the same thickness.

2 options for grow beds a round one which would work great or also a square one using rebar bent to a square shape. Maybe confusing you let me think more about it

I about have my sump dug out, 4'x4'x9', I would really like to make it concrete. I don't have much experience with it, but it does not sound too difficult. If I can't be sure that I am doing a good enough job to make it last, then I will just line it with ply wood and a plastic liner for now.

I could use some suggestions from you concrete pro's.

thanks,
Mathew

Where abouts in the states Mathew? If you have lots of freeze thaw ferrocement might not work for you.

We freeze about every 3-4 years (32 deg.) for about 30 min. to an hour, and thaw shortly thereafter. I doubt that will be an issue in this area. Two years ago we got a once in 100 year snow, and by afternoon the grass had to be cut.
