no, no baccy round here, used to be some in the Burdekin, but that was gone many years ago.
I'm just thinking the poor tree/bush has gotten smothered by the competition.

Sometimes Tobacco Mosaic Virus can show itself in the leaves of the plant. If they appear spindly and malformed it is a good sign of it. That tomato does look similar to some of the tomatoes I have seen that have TMV, though ours have tended to be more blotchy. Also of note: certain varieties are more resistant than others to mosaic virus, and TMV can be transmitted to plants on the fingers of smokers. At my work they do not allow smokers to tour the greenhouses for that very reason.

I did not know that a virus can be carried by smokers. We do not allow smoking at the ministry, but have visitors that smoke come by. Does this mean that if you work at the greenhouse you can not be a smoker?

That is correct, it is specifically Tobacco Mosaic Virus though. So long as smokers do not contact anything it is ok. But its just like a cold transmission: one person can touch a doorknob and leave traces of virus, another touches the doorknob then prunes a plant. Means likely infection. Any plants that are seen or tested to be infected are removed and thrown away...not composted as the virus can reinfect through soil.
Generally it is really only a big issue in large intensive production greenhouses where losses can mean loss of significant income.
The key is to seed or breed in resistant varieties.

Who said anything about quitting - I said quilting. Looking forward to using that quilt when I'm down in November Steve. Do you have a cat to sit on it?
