A place to discuss aquaponics

I went to the lectures in Brisbane today (Bribie Island). The speakers were very well credentialed and were highly informative. Not many people attended, which is a shame because the event was of high quality and was also very cheap. Eventhough some of it was geared to showing that an aquaponics venture is a viable business venture if done correctly, there was also heaps in it for backyrd hobbyists like myself and most others reading on this group.

I would recommend everybody in NSW attend the lectures next Wednesday and those in VIC to attend next Saturday.

Good to hear VB, I'll pass on your comments to Geoff when I see him in Melbourne.

Damn, it's tempting, I will be in melbourne, just time wise very limited. Does anyone know if you can just roll up and pay on the day with no notice?

Are they Going to be in SA any time soon?

Dan - they are going to be in Adelaide to attend the Australasia Aquaculture 2006 conference. This is the crescendo of the tour (and I guess the main reason the guys are out here). Session 5A of the conference (Monday August 28) will be convened by Geoff Wilson and will comprise talks from the guys who are presenting at the Bris, Syd and Melb lectures (as well as the publishers of the Aquaponics Journal in California). I think somebody looked into the cost of attending the Aquaculture Conference and it turned out to be prohibitivelly high.

Yeah, was cheaper for me to have 5 days in Melbourne and go to the field day and lecture there! And more fun I hope!

How disapointing to XE for me.
I wonder if the forum could create field day(s) in their region--state.
It can help to get a lot done.

Field days in each state would be outstanding. We have moderators in VIC, SA, QLD, The boss in WA............Got most of the states covered.

It would be a good way to achieve coverage and the chance to network co-op ish ideas.
There may even be some funding for it in the fed or state budget.
Could be worthy of some further thought.

Baby steps C1

Summer will be a good one this year, with so many people having systems near completion. It will be a good time to fine tune systems and asses productivity

I would be happy to have any interested Adelaideians over for a squiz at my system when it is up and running

Aww, thats what i was afraid of. When i found out about the aquaculture confrence a couple of months ago, i got all excited when i saw they were having aquaponics, but then i remembered i would be at Tafe at the time.....
