I would also like to say that when I see certain eps of Mythbusters I CRINGE when I see how unprofessional they are in the handling of all fireams, is this typical of a US firearm owner and how they handle them?.if thats the case then they SHOULD be banned

BK - I mean what I said in the perspective of a person trying to defend themselves. I should have specified further. The only way you can have a hand gun in Australia is through sporting clubs or police/security.

I understand completely the need for some semi-auto rifles in farming and for culling of pests. But did you have a full auto rifle like the military rifles I specified. I don't think anyone would imagine culling rabbits/kangaroos using an M16 on full auto or burst.

Can I ask why you got rid of your hand gun?

MC - You may feel comfortable with a military weapon, but what reason do you have for owning it, other than the sake of owning it and shooting beer cans, compared to other, less lethal weapons.

A .22 or a pile of buck shot in a person, will stop them from robbing you, it may not necessarily kill them, but breaking into your house would be low on their to do list. Keeping in mind that REAL people don't usually get up after being shot in the arm or leg. A 7.62 on the other hand causes huge damage. Can I ask what ammunition you use?

Every second Tuesday I attend a drive by shooting club, where we drive past cardboard cutouts of women and children and open fire. :)

On Wednesdays, just for fun I go out with and AK47 and shoot random things like letterboxes and public telephones.

What comes with owning a gun of such calibers, should come huge responsibility, but I don't think it does. I believe it is just a pissing contest to see who has the biggest gun.

Tim I got rid of my hand gun because I wanted too :) and also lil johnny howard was taking the fun out of it by proposing that to own one you must compete at an olympic level and train at olympic events which was just f*cking stupid and unreasonable.

EB if it was me you were asking about where do you draw the line at sports shooting I would possibly draw the line at the same place you would if it wasnt a hobby.......we each have our own hobbies, I was never raised to be violent or to hate ppl, there are alot of skills needed to hit a target a mile away , next you will be against archery lmao.

oh and TIM as for killing skip etc I wouldnt wanna use a semi atuo/full auto rifle either....is totally unecessary...and hopefully I havent mislead you or EB ..Im still against the unecessary owning and use of firearms.is all relative guess......if you never had a use for em or fired em etc then you would be against em......................unfortunately there have been more deaths due to drunk driving.....ILLEGAL handguns, ethnic clashes......but I dont see anyone making comments about em here rofl

if you want to go history, i whould say the British Empire.

Really, what about the romans? the spanish? the zulus? How far back in time do you want to go? How many cultures haven't at one time or another decided to annexe their neighbouring country? Aren't they all acts of terrorism? Don't reckon too many went "don't rape that girl, she's a civilian!"

I own a .22 but haven't had the oppurtunity to hunt with it in years. I don't keep it in the house becuase I cna't see the point, If the need arises to defend myself or my family from an intruder in my house (extremely miniscule chance of that happening)I have two big dogs and a cricket bat that work pretty well in close quarters;)

i agree with the semi auto handguns being designed for only one purpose but the option I and others took for its use I see as an acceptable sport that does involve alot of skill...and reconition for my dad lol...ps neither of us applaud the acts of war or violence and cringe when we see attacks here in oz with a handgun( most of which would have been illegally gained and being of illegal posession)

I would also go as far as saying that banning handguns etc is a waste of time...."OUTLAW GUNS AND THEN ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS"

I got no probs with guns themselves (no i'm not going to use the cheesy line)

Had i been born say 20 years earlier i'm sure i'd have bought one at Kmart and had fun with it in the country.

Would still like to have a go, but its too much effort.

Not too sure about the

I betya there are more crims in america with a hand gun than in OZ........

Of COURSE the crims are going to have them, the same way that we have smack, dope and coke. but do you want 100's of thousands of them floating around legally? Surely that more in the pot to end up in the wrong hands and more easily?

BK, when i say ban hand guns i mean to the extent that THEY ALREADY ARE. lol.

You can still have one if its kept at a club like you mentioned (i think) and there are professions that are allowed. but to my knoledge its not legal to own one and keep it in your top draw (or anywhere for that matter) THATS what i'm talking about.

You don't reckon we'd be worse off if it was a free for all? C'mon man.

If you ban hand guns you make it that little bit harder for the criminals, remove all 9 mm, .45 and .44 ammunition from stores. The criminals will have them regardless, if we can stop the students, disgruntled husbands and wives, suicides and desperate attempts at robbery.

I would love to know how many handgun related deaths are actually from registered and licensed firearms. How many people died because they were carrying a gun? How many licensed guns are stolen and go into circulation, because the owner was careless?

How difficult is it in the US to buy gun parts and weapons via catalog or the internet?

Where we are it is far more likely that the weapon involved in armed robbery will be a sharp stick or knife/machete rather than a "gun"
