Hi LB. I have no experience myself with Murray Cod, but they are an option for sure. From the reading i have done they are extremely territorial. They work in recirc systems but you MUST have them at high densities to minimize their cannibalistic behaviour. If you stock them at low density you will get faster growth and bigger fish bc the big ones eat the small ones as well as their fish food.

Had first hand experience of this at TAFE this week. Their Cod trial this year is producing more even fish growth bc they have them at a higher density than last year. They had much faster growth at lower density last year bc the fish were eating each other.

If u are going to go this way, i would think u would need to grade quite regularly. They sound like a bit of work but are a beaut eating fish. If u have the time and space, room to split them after grading, remove nutes due to ur high stocking rate to inhibit their natural behaviour etc, would be well worth a go imo.

Temp 21
pH = 6.0
Ammonia = Trace
Nitrite = 0.25
Nitrate = 80 (All the reds look the same)

Plants are kicking along nicely..
All fish problems are cleared up too. :D
pH still needs to be raise

nice water temp LB, given how chilly it has been. Nice early season growth too. If i can have my water temps same as urs this time next winter, silvers should be into the tucker nicely. Think u have convinced me to leave the trout alone, i just don't need the hassle of trying to keep them cool for 6 months of the year.

LB, yeah, I have trouble telling the reds apart, too. If you dilute the sample water with distilled water at a known rate, you can get a reasonable test result. For example, mix one part tank water with 4 more parts distilled water, run the test on the mixed sample, and multiply the result by 5.

Thanks Monya and Jaymie
TT - The greenhouse works a treat..Air temps getting up to 32 deg c (89F)during the day when the sun is shining. The plants are booming..notice the growth everyday..i think silvers are the way to go first off..hardy fish...thou bloody ugly compare to the goldies. Will try something different next season.

Thanks Janetpelletier...thats a excellent idea I never thought of.. :D

Woke up this morning with 3 deg C airtemp..
Went to fishtank to uncover, check water temp, was at 16 deg C...Thought hmmmm since usually at 20 deg C. Dismissed since low overnight air temp.

Went out before at 11.15am and noticed plants abit limp...still the penny didn't drop..
Then put feed into tank and the fish didn't come up..checked the timer for the air pump read 5pm....
:shock: HSM :shock:

Had a repair man here yesterday afternoon on the washing machine where system plugs into...the plug was partly out so no power into the system since 5pm....total of 18 hours..

Lucky it was overnight when the temps would had been lower..
No casualities what I can see.

Currently running all pumps on continuous cycle..removed floating feed out of system..

I think i will invest in a backup system. :(
