I should add a bit more detail. I know that most of you know all about omega-3 oils. But for those that don't:

Fish are essentially the ONLY source. Don't believe the stuff about getting omega-3 oils from seeds - that is a short-chain omega-3. Kids need the long-chain omega-3 oils as well. Some people can sythesize some long chain omega-3 oils, but most people can't. So if you don't get it from fish, you are in trouble.

There is some research on an algae that provides a long-chain omega-3 for vegetarians, but the work is pretty new.

Essentially fish is your only natural source of long-chain omega-3.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the Minamurra day, in another thread I have asked the guys that are going to ask some marketing type questions on my behalf, things like do they market their produce as "aquaponic", and what recognition is there of the concept from their customers etc?

Thanks again for all your feedback and advice. :)

If you want to get a little entrepeneurial, give some thought to growing aquarium fish and aquatic plants.

There are many "hobbyists" breeding and growing fish under their houses (in Brisbane at least) in some quite sophisticated setups.

You won't get $20.00 plus for your Silver Perch but many aquarium fish will attract that and much more.

Some time back, I came across a bloke who said that he'd abandoned growing dope in favour of growing aquatic plants - more money in it, he said......and, unlike the drug squad, aquarium shop proprietors don't kick your door down at midnight.

Take a tip from successful gamblers and speculators......don't commit more than you can afford to lose. The advice holds good for business, too.

AM, I liked the look of your modular system.

Re-reading that, I better point out that I thought it was possibly a SG reference, not something else to do with 6 and 9...

IMHO-fish better than anything for omega 3+9 , omega 6 from fruit and veg is better.

Since the topic is of a business vein --
How about essential oils in the herbs we grow.easy to extract.
or a fresh herbs section at the local deli.

side issue;
Or meet our neighbour to sell/share energy food.

Your immediate neighbourhood is the best place to find a market if possible. Save transportation, saves advertising, and local product has value added in this day when folk want to know where and how their food is produced.

Restaurants, caterers, veggie stores, veggie markets, a produce delivery service (box of organic veg $20 - 30 dropped at your door once a week is common here)

Everybody eats, your food should be superior, you needn't go far to sell a superior food product at all.

I agree with Aquaddict on the local part. Where I live, near moreton bay, there are litterally dozens of restaurants that would love this kind of product. I can't wait to get my system up and going so that I can sell some fishies and fresh produce (only approx 2 weeks to go!!! till tank arrives!!!)

Careful there mate... DPI&F are very strict with that sort of thing... you need a licence for that, you cant even barter with the fish unless you have a licence (but if they are willing to do it " under the table", then you may be able to get away with it...
Just thought I would sound a note of caution after my chat with the folks from DPI&F last week...

Yes, I imagine I will eat my fish and sell the produce while small scale and wading red tape.

I'm allowed to sell fancy goldfish, so I shall raise them mainly, to help fund my tinkerings while experimenting with tasty local fish.
