My daughter found this on the beach in Dongara. It is some kind puffer/blow fish and was roughly tennis ball size when found, but shown here mostly deflated. It was returned to swim another day

I think it is a "Brown stripey toad fish" endemic to the Dongara area....

I caught a similarly ugly-lookin' fish off the jetty at Victor Harbor (south coast South Aust) quite a few years ago. Elderly local reckoned it was a one-in-a-thousand mutation, not unknown, but pretty rare around there. I wouldn't touch it, and he wouldn't let his dog eat it !! :flower:

I think it is lovely!

I have invited some of my aquarium enthusiast friends from the Perth Cichlid Society to have a shot at identifying it for you!

Some of the them do saltwater fish too!

I would love to keep something like that in a big speccie saltwater aquarium ... but I am nowhere near experienced enough to do so! (Puffers are so beautiful to look at!)

It may be possible that it is not local and is subject of a ballast discharge from a ship from other localities! But I am not really that familiar with local fish!

I love that in the perth suburbs we are so close to the sea!

I freaked with joy when swimming amongst what looked like angelfish in shallows at point perron. Feeding a blue ring octopus sardines! (I know! - hand was gloved! Octopussy was very happy!)

And yet again when snorkelling amongst a school of what looked like a million trevalli a little further out on the same day.

Imagine how I felt when I saw 9 dolphins off point peron and one that came so close to me an my kids ... one that you could touch off the jetty at Rockingham!

We are so very lucky here in WA!

Some of the PCS girls ad Guys look after saltwater aquariums too! So I think we may be in with a chance regards IDing this blowie!
