Some of the plants really seem to be doing well, once I noticed them picking up I trimmed off all the outer leaves so there was only a couple left. What seems like only a few short days later they've got a ton of leaves back.

One which didn't seem to be doing any good, I pulled out to toss away, and it had a heap of beautiful new roots, so I quickly jammed it back in. Also I sprinkled some fresh jalepeno and tomato seeds in there to see what happens.

Will take some photos later.

Oh also I seem to be getting those little white creatures on the lettuce leaves ... how to get rid of?

small white fuzzy things? mealy bugs. I've just learnt (2 days ago ;) ) that you wipe them with methylated spirits and water 50/50 to kill them.
I sprayed my beans yesterday, they still seem to be alive ;) as are the fish :D

Another thing to consider, buying a pump that can be used in your bigger system!!!! BIG PUMP! can crank it down with an inline tap or even better ,send the excess back (via a T piece and tap) which will give aeration to the fish.

I've actually got a really big pump already that's been sitting around for ages since I shut down the 9 breeder tanks. I've been using it to pump greywater though, so will probably need a really good clean before using in AP. Just looked at it.. does 10,000 LPH with a head of 4.9M

I seem to be going through a lot of water ... it looks like I've lost 1/3 or so over the last week. There's no leaks that I can find, so it must be evaporation. Poor goldies were flapping around in an inch of water at the end of a flood cycle.

I've transplanted a little chilli plant into the GB to see how it fares. The spinach (i think it's spinach ) at the back is going crazy, seems to have grown another few inches in 2 days, and has a heap of yellow flowers at the tip.

I'd say it is of bokchoy family and it has bolted.
You will need to eat it soon...
any other ideas?

HI as for the water usage seems your flood cycle is to high fill only to 1 1/2 in below the top of the clay balls this will stop evaporation

Yep UT, think C1 is right there, my bok choy is looking like that as well (going to seed ).

I put in spinach and silverbeet in the same GB:
silverbeet we are harvesting and eating on a daily basis
spinach hasn't really taken off in my AP system (will put up some pics on my thread)

Overnight the two hoses came apart so all the water in the tank got pumped over the balcony. Thankfully there was just enough on the bottom to keep the fish alive until I found it this morning. Filled it back up, but probably lost a bunch of progress while it restocks itself with bacteria etc.
