Good job AM! I know most teachers don't get kudos very often, but you, your students and the school deserve them. (Even without recognition and interest from the Secretary.)

Now Joel (EB) are you going to send the Secretary a cap and a can/bottle coosie?! Maybe he would even join the happy little band here, and use some of the expertise and knowledge to expand the number of AP projects going on.

So Erik.

How many good PR shots & positive front pages can you get MT?

Afraid I've fundamentally distrusted this guy for the last 15+ years. Since his early Corporate lawyer & Merchant banker days.

As they say, the only thing worse that being talked about is not being talked about. So from that angle it's a great thing.

AM, a question. Based on the conversations between MT & staff and your people. How well informed where they when they got there? Beginners questions or more informed stuff about operations, plans, experiments etc. Questions that show whether they think AP really does have a role to play in their planning or that it was a PR stunt.

To start with they were here for the presentation of a green voucher, which is a grant to improve the water usage (make it more efficient) on campus... Part of the application was the AP project (unfortunately it was not the entire application or I would have 50000 to build a monster set-up!)... Mr Turnbull knew a lot about hydroponics and a lot about aquaculture, but had not seen an AP system before (there is a first time for everything)... He and his staff were asking a lot of questions which indicated that they wanted to know more and did not seem like they were just using up time - especially paying attention (it appeared) to how the 2 systems were interdependent and about water usage (they liked the idea of a closed system which made maximum use of water and that there was no 'dumping of water' as in hydroponics :) ) . Lets face it, every opportunity is a PR opportunity for a polly, but he showed what appeared to be genuine interest in what was being said. Keeping this in mind you can understand that he did not have any projected plans for Ap. something made him come to Peace Lutheran College to personally present the Green Voucher and I cant help feeling seeing that we had a functional AP system helped in that decision :)
Did I answer your question :?:

thats hella cool, politicians must be alot differnt there. politicians here only take money from people. when i saw "Politicians notice Aquaponics" i thought they were gonna tax it or ban it or something. a headline like that here would not be a good thing.

If our politicians were to try that here they would make a whole bunch of laws first so that they could control you that way ;)
Some of ours work for the people, some for themselves ... we pay both type's salaries... I just wish MORE f them would remember that they are working for the masses and NOT for themselves - perhaps we should bring in performance linked pay for politicians ;)

I'd like to put them on AWA's .... then we'd only have to pay them for when they actually worked :D

Great stuff AM. You do us proud Grasshopper. Gee it would be nice if something happened at a policy level. I suspect it will take the form of a more open mind on grants for AP based research. That would be a great result. Once again, fantastic work.

Thanks AM. That was the kinda info I was after.

I will disagree with you about every opportunity being a PR opportunity. Think we got different definitions of PR.

hmmm ... I suppose I have only been in Australia for just on 5 years so I am still learning about our politician's histories :) So for now I am blindly taking things at face value :) Anything that brings AP or my school into the news in a positive way is welcome and that is what happened here:D
(I had better brush up on Australian politics though as I have been accepted for citizenship - which means voting soon  )
