Freakin hell - what a score. They look like fibreglass. A new coat of flowcoat (or is it gelcoat Muzza) will probably make them like new again. Jealous man  .

this is likely gonna be my approach. i'm considering running the baths as growbeds against the back fence. they should look good and take up less space. only problem is with a 2:1 growbed to tank ratio im gonna need like what 100 bathbubs? i guess i don't need to fill the tanks to capacity. i guess i can run low stock rates in the tanks and increase them as i increase the growbeds. thinking about it this seems a logical approach.

i am thinking similar about hireing a bobcat. funny thing is this same guy i got the tanks off owns one. hmmm.

why only half under? why not all the way down? to much earth moving?

OMG, you have scored! I'm seeing a tidal system, linked through highways between the tanks, hire a bobcat, spend a few hundred bucks and get them half under ground- as for growbeds- sounds like it would be worth keeping on looking in the same place you found those! What about using the bath tubs as growbeds?

Best of luck!

i considered this but dont know how to create the growbeds. as suggested i have considered cutting some in half to use as grow beds. just seems like a waste of a tank.

for this reason im leaning toward using the bath tubs as growbeds.

Just a quick thought, could you partfill some and line the top part to use as grow beds.

yeah i know i'm addicted. think i need to go to aquaponics anonimous.

good point on the pumps as now doubt these will cost me a small fortune.

first thing i gotta get out to yours and pickup your book.

btw thanks for inspiring my madness.

Damn you've got it bad C1...... :D

you could join all of the tanks by using a syphon type arrangement, still a fair amount of thought required though to make it into something good without lots of pumps of bubblers........ Ummmmmm :?

well my logic is i will restore them then the ones i don't need sell for a small profit. i can then use the $ to invest in other aspects of the venture. either way i'm happy.

Joel makes a good point. It is a good score, but if you had the choice you'd go for 2 10,000 litre fish tanks rather than 20 1,000 litre tanks (just trying to make myself less jealous of the score 8) ).

i guess the saying is nothing ventured nothing gained.

i have lost a lot before through bad investments but lost more through not investing when i had the chance.

the large ponds were used for growing fish, while the bathtubs were used for breeding them, from what i recall.

steve wrote:
I think i asked that too, but then re-read the original post. did you say the bath tubs were for fish or the ponds too?

EB,Thanks for the correction.Though still have it bad!!!
BF no doubt muz would have the answer, though will start the ball rolling.
Grinding fibreglass is not much fun and without dust extraction I would not suggest doing it in the backyard as the dust will be around for ever.
If there is a lot of mechanical key area(fibre sticking out but well stuck) there are quite a few coatings that will do the job of 'closing' the fibres.
I would go for a elastomeric polyeurathane one pack(paint from the tin)
potable coating (will send mdsa via PM).That way the coating will flex when the tubs flexes and not de-laminate.

Hi Bio-Farmer, Easiest and best way is to use Flow Coat .... If you PM me I will give the info you need to get them done.

How about the sizes of them, and some individual pix of the items so I can see the shape etc Perhaps if they are a good useable size I would like to buy one of each from you to make a mould off for future sales.
I will send them back to you all fixed up when finished. That's if they are a good useable size and shape.

Muzza.

Very nice work BF..! (jealous too). If you are interested in getting rid of a couple once you have restored them please let me know...

Are you on a flat block? Would be nice to have an incline and have gravity do some of the work for you.

Am I right in thinking that fibreglass tanks/tubs like this would need to be supported on their sides if were filled with water above ground, or is it strong enough (given that the fibreglass is a decent thickness)?

cheers
